Here's some more data which I pulled out of another Tacitus fighter a/c evaluation document. I'm reading off a grap here, so don't expect micrometer accuracy -

Aircraft........P40C...........Zero A6M2 Model 21

160 mph IAS.....70 deg/sec.....57 deg/sec
200 mph IAS.....82 deg/sec.....55 deg/sec
240 mph IAS.....92 deg/sec.....52 deg/sec
280 mph IAS.....95 deg/sec.....45 deg/sec
320 mph IAS.....93 deg/sec.....38 deg/sec
360 mph IAS.....92 deg/sec.....23 deg/sec

These data were generated the the USAF a/c performance computer program in the early 70's. If accurate, they show that a Zero could not stay with a P40 in a roll out and dive or a roll reversal.

The logic for the dive-away tactic of P40 drivers versus the Zero was that the P40 was 10-15mph faster than the Zero at any altitude up to about 20000 feet. The P40 could handily out-dive the Zero. And once it had extended, there was no way that the Zero could catch the P40.

Interesting .....

US data means nothing to 1c, if it did the p40e and M would have a higher top sealevel flight speed and would have a roll rate faster then the p39, but this is olegs sim so he does as he pleases

Even if it supposidly is faster, I would certainly not push it very hard, as it's a big airframe and alot of weight for that allison engine to be lugging around...

I find the P-40's engine to be rather touchy at high speeds but it really is fun to fly /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
