Hi All,
Bin hanging out over in CFS3 land for a while but recently I finally admitted that I sucked pretty hard at this fighter pilot stuff and signed up for some virtual lessons over at Joint Ops.
That meant picking up copy of 1946, so here I am!
At first glance it seems both different and similar, so I am sure I will have lots of questions before I am comfortable in the cockpit.

I will try not to make too much of a nuisance of myself, but just thought I would warn you all that I may have a few Nooby questions!
TIA!

Von G

PS. Any of you tried the training at Joint Opps? I am scheduled for Basic Flight School at the start of next month and would appreciate any pointers or tips.

You'll have to excuse Megile, he's the village idiot. He has decided to respond to some questions that may not have been asked yet by spamming your post. If you run into any trouble, feel free to PM me. You'll get a lot less cr@p from these guys who think they own the place and fill it with SPAM.

Thanks guys,
Hell, any tips are appreciated at this stage, and with a siggy pic like that, I can forgive a fair bit of spammin!

You might want to download and install my "Straight From the Farm" campaign to practice takeoffs and landings. Installation instructions are included in the readme file. Follow the link below.

Feel free to ask questions; most of us are noob friendly.

You have to assign keys for manual landing gear.

You have to assign a key for the tail hooks.

Only a few of the planes have opening canopies.

The black caps covering the gunsights on various Japanese planes is removed with CNTRL+D.

See my 'Updating' thread linked in my sig.

Welcome VonG,
As purchased, 1946 straight out of the box is version 407. You will need to download the patch to bring you up to version 408.
As Skycat suggests hit the upgrade link in his sig for this and other usefull info.(WTG Skycat)
And dont ever hesitate to ask questions here, you wouldnt know it by the way some guys here carry on, but we were all "noobs" (I dislike that word) at one time. Generally you will not find a shortage of help here.

No to be too facetious, but do try hard to forget everything that CFS3 may have taught you. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Welcome as well.

This forum is indeed newbie-friendly. Just ask respectfully anything you want to know, and I'll promptly make any of these guys answer the question.

I to am pretty new at IL2 and have signed up for Octobers Join-Ops training. Make sure you have downloaded all the files needed for the training sessions. I have printed mine off and have been reading up on it quite a bit and am realy excited about it. Maybe we will be in the same squad but either way I look forward to seeing you there along with all who have enrolled in Octobers sessions.

Welcome to the forums. This, as you may or may not know, is the best WW2 combat flight sim around...at least till BoB comes out (I just had to say that http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif) whenever that might be.

Glad to encounter someone who is going to be on the same course.
This is definitely going to do me some good. I have been working my way through the "Straight from the farm" missions, but I have found that my previous experience with other sims isnt transferring to a huge degree.
(I still have a huge way to go before I am Uber enough to have a small animal implanted in my chest meat!)
See you at SEPS!
