View Full Version : New to IL2

When I say new I mean real new. I read in the forum and downloaded "Straight From the Farm" by Zeus-cat to learn the basics of flying. I find the missions in the single missions but do not know how to load the campaign. I have IL-2 1946 v4.09b1m. My options are: Single Missions, Pilot Career, Multiplay, Quick Mission Builder and Full Mission Builder. What am I missing? Also is there a place where newbees can find out the basic answers without clogging up the main forum?

Yes, Hangman has given you the link to the excellent Nugget's Guide. I would also suggest you take a look at Skycat's Guide (Google it - it is found at SimHQ I believe) and when you get ready for online dogfighting you can take a look at this guide: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/2751038856

You will have to learn how to set up practice dogfights with the Quick Mission Builder before you get ready for real human opponents. Il2 is a great game but unfortunately it requires a break in period of two months or so to get up to speed.

The sites that the others have given are great. You may want to look up Joint-Ops if you have the time. I have attached a link.

If you have installed Straight from the Farm correctly it should be in your pilot career under the USN campaigns if IIRC.

If you want to fly online you might have to revert back to 4.08.Most servers are running the 4.08 version as the dedicated 4.09 is not out yet.

Thanks to everyone for the links. You are right about it going to take a while, but that's not a problem. I love the game.

Great, glad you found the Newbie's Guide helpful. Hopefully, it will help to take away some of the frustration in the first few weeks online.

Zeus-cat, yes I found it. Your file loaded great, It just took me a while to figure out how to navigate to the correct file. Still working on your original missions. I refuse to continue to a higher level until I master this one. Thanks again for the missions, I look forward to some of your other ones.
