On March 7-8 1968 a Soviet Golf II class Balistic submarine surfaced 360 miles from Pearl Harbor Naval Base. It attemped to launch its 3 SLBM's at the naval base. K-129 blew up because a saftey device blew up the HE's in the warhead spreading radition all over, this set off the liquid fule in the missle itself. This set off the #2 missle blowing a hole in the bottom of the sub. This is the sub the Glomar Exploer lifted. K-129 was mimaking a Chinise Golf I (wich could only launch on the surffice and missles had a range of about 400 miles) so the U.S and China would launch there nukes at eachother leaving the U.S.S.R as the new world power.

Now what do you think of that? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

its a true story, howard hughes was the man behind the project funded by the cia. they even recovered some human remains and had them properly buried at sea and send the video to the soviet union and to the family members.

How about another Soviet submarine theory? Check out Wikipedia's article on the Kursk:

You mean that thing were they build this ship with this huge grabber that should raise the soviet sub ?

They came up with that story that the sub broke in half on the way up and that an nuclear missile fell out of its launch tube. They also said that they couldnt find the codebooks in that half they managed to raise.

I dont know if this is the real story. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Some people say that the part with the "breaking in half" and the nuke never happened.

They got the entire sub WITH the codebooks they were searching for and invented that nuclear missile crashing into the ground story to prevent the russians from going there and investigating the wrecksite on their own. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

They propably would find no other half of the sub because it never broke in half and would figure out that the cia had the codebooks and knows more about the cypher system the russian use as they claim http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

At least this is what i would do. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Inventing a horror story about "the mission failed" and "horrible radiation from the reactor and that missile" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Because what happens if the mission report leaks out and the KGB gets it into their hands ?

They would instantly change their cypher system and all the work was useless. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

But if they read it and are convinced by it that the codebooks are on the bottom of the ocean unreachable covert in radiation....... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

K-129 broke into pecies when it hit the bottom(at the compartment joints). So they brought up all 5(or 6?) pieces up sepretly.

"At least some portion of K129 was successfully recovered, including, according to most accounts, two nuclear-tipped torpedoes and the remains of six (or eight) Soviet sailors. Some report that as many as 70 bodies were recovered, and some believe that the entire submarine, complete with ICBMs, was recovered successfully. What is certain is that the CIA, in a strange and politically motivated gesture, returned the bodies of K129's sailors to the sea, with full Soviet Military honors, and videotaped the ceremony. This video was made public after it was presented by CIA director Robert Gates to Russian President Boris Yeltsin in 1992."
