Well, look on the bright side. Maybe it'll get some punk kids off the street. They'll be terrorizing internet forums instead! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

(Note: That was a joke, not an endorsement)

Is that all? Here in the UK they give bloody houses away for free, then pay all the bills.

I'd like to see some more about the resolution since the NY Post's reporting can be almost as bad as the National Enquierer. Regardless it's amazing how they want money to pay for internet access with the schools falling apart, due to lack of books, decent teachers, security, adequate space and many more issues.

Where is this welfare garbage going to end? Some families have been on welfare for generations. Ive seen people whos only goal in life is to get on welfare because they don't want to work. This is just another step towards socialism...

Well Tacamo, that's liberal mentality for ya, how about them frozen shopping carts eh? Maybe NYC will be doing that next? Since, you know, they obviously have their priorities straight.

So this is the next thing that people want to waste money on? Lovely. If the idea is to help the disadvantaged I fail to see how high speed Internet take priority over decent shelter, clothing and food.

Downloading porn, music and warez will keep some from mugging and robbing people/places to get money. Homemade phishing schemes can become a source of income.

Except that since they will have to pay for some of it they will end up needing more money. While a pron habit is probably less deadly than a crack habit, it probably costs a good bit of money as well. The downloading of illegal software will of course end up costing the state more money in prosecutions, but that's just more tax dollars at work...

This is another way politicians "guarantee" votes for themselves. Wtf is FREE highspeed internet going to do for those that can't affort it? Most of them will just spend more time on the internet chat lines chating about how "Big Business" is taking advantage of them and they won't even bother looking for a JOB!
Of course you got the ol porn site addiction that would keep them busy for a while too.

Making available used PC's for Free with software to learn different skills is something I believe could help someone in getting a better job but the Free highspeed internet is something to last until the next elections.

But this will backfire on the politicians because when they need votes their "gurantee voters" will be too busy breaking the sound berrier on the Internet...........Yep for FREE! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
