In many ways, the Lemba tribe of Zimbabwe and South Africa are just like their neighbours.

But in other ways their customs are remarkably similar to Jewish ones.

They do not eat pork, they practise male circumcision, they ritually slaughter their animals, some of their men wear skull caps and they put the Star of David on their gravestones.

Their oral traditions claim that their ancestors were Jews who fled the Holy Land about 2,500 years ago.

It may sound like another myth of a lost tribe of Israel, but British scientists have carried out DNA tests which confirm their Semitic origin.

These tests back up the group's belief that a group of perhaps seven men married African women and settled on the continent. The Lemba, who number perhaps 80,000, live in central Zimbabwe and the north of South Africa.

Amazing!!

Despite their ties to Judaism, many of the Lemba in Zimbabwe are Christians, while some are Muslims.

"Christianity is my religion, and Judaism is my culture," explains Perez Hamandishe, a pastor and member of parliament from the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC).

If only the rest of the world were as enlightened as these people.

The tales about Shebah-Israel exchange are now considered to have a solid historical basis. Not so surprising, considering this.

That is very interesting.
How long have researchers known about this tribe?

The definitive proof will be if 25% of tribe members have done standup comedy, if at least 50% are self-hating, if 10% look and act like Woody Allen, and 5% are top-level investment bankers in the City of London and New York City.

I remember hearing about this tribe and their ancestry several years ago on a TV show. It may have been on the History Channel or Discovery Channel, I cannot recall which. The connection was proven with DNA back then so I suspect its been known for a while.

What would really be funny is if his remains were found and DNA testing proved he was either Chinese or a Pigmy. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Man, science would then take a beating before be banned. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

I once told a workmate that Jesus was black. She was completely shocked.
I told her he was from African stock - Moses came from Egypt to find the promised land. So he was definitely not 'white' as he is often depicted in biblical illustrations.

Holocaust deniers are said to be excited by the prospect of speaking to Jews who have no known connection with Europe.

Delve deep enough into anybody's DNA and the results can be interesting---and likely to be horrifying to racialists whether they be white, black, yellow, or brown---especially here in the USA where the bloodlines are like a cocktail (unless you happen to be an East Coast patrician, like a Kennedy or Vanderbilt). We know the Irish claim to be a lost tribe of Israel---DNA the lot and let us see what comes up.

Some people can't handle the truth. But--assuming he is real--Jesus wasn't black. Not all Africans are black. Consider the Carthaginians or Egyptians. Some magical divide doesn't occur in the middle of the Mediterranean that automatically makes people turn black on the shores of Africa. The "magical line" is the equator, and that occurs much further south than anything Biblical.

I don't see why people get hung up on whether the guy was supposedly "white" or "black," because he was neither. He was from the middle east, therefore he was Semitic. Blacks generally come from sub-saharan Africa and whites generally from northern Europe.

If anything, he would have looked like a modern day Egyptian, Jordanian, or Syrian.
