I was curious how often do you run into non-British/US ships, on my second carreer I snuck past Gibraltar and sailed below the coast of Spain, and I ran into a Greek C2 and I sank it, I also noticed the HUrricane's Desert Camo, it makes the planes look a lot better to me.

Anyway, how often do you run into non-British/US ships?

I was hunting a convoy in Feb 1940 and was getting harassed by a V&W. I used the camera (first time) to look around, and it was French. The bastards would not give me any Bordaux or Brie, so I sank them. Serves them right. I also come across Norwegen ships all the time, I am in the 7th, so I go out of Kiel. They are just about to enetr the war, and while they thow snowballs at me, I will shoot torpedos at them.

I"ve encountered 6 Norwegian ships 1 Free French and 1 Greek. I have played only one career for all those months, I am at my 16th patrol on July 1941.

I sank a Polish small merchant in the middle of the North Sea. If I had to guess its path, I'd say it was going from Poland to Hartelpool. I have video of the torpedo strike, but I don't know how to post it.

It was late 1939. I'm on my first and only career. Currently, I'm up to June, 1940. Norwegian ships are by FAR the ones I've seen most often.

There are a lot of problems with the composition/make-up of convoys in the stock game.

jasonb885 at Subsim.com has been working for weeks to improve the convoys, based on historical composition with some gameplay considerations.

His ImprovedConvoys mod is a work in progress, but here is a list of improvements it contains. At the bottom, I'll include a link to where you can get the ImprovedConvoys mod (latest update: 7-29-2005)

Convoys in the RND layer of SH3 v1.4 (and before) were completely unrepresentative
of actual convoy operations from 1939 through 1945. To counter this,

* Adds nationalities to convoys in historical proportions
* Adds cruisers and escort carriers in convoys that might have them
* Adds Captain Walker's Second Support Group to Bay of Biscay in '42-'45
* Rebalances convoy type proportions, with most convoys heavily cargo
* Implements adoption curve for American Liberty, Victory and British Ocean ships
* Increases convoy sizes for 1941-1945
* Increases escort variety
* Corrects the entry date of the Victory to Feb 28th 1944 (actually Jan)
* Corrects contact report and frequency to reasonable levels
* Corrects C Class destoyer so depth charge racks are available in 1939
* Reduces frequency of convoys in 1939-1940
* Reduces single merchant reports and traffic to 8% in 1939
* Reduces single merchant reports and traffic to 2% in 1940
* Reduces single merchant reports and traffic to 0.8% in 1941-1945
* Reduces single merchant traffic to 20% off U.S. coast until 1943 (Drumbeat!)
* Reduces single merchant traffic to 8% in the Mediterranean Sea

Please refer to the included files:

Both contain detailed output regarding the composition of the original convoys
and those included in ImprovedConvoys.

There are a few mods that you really should install for ImprovedConvoys to play
best on your SH3 installation.

* SonarDC_20 or SonarDC_Fix by Jungman -- Now you can evade Elite escorts

* Hampton Class Cruiser Mod by Sergbuto -- An extra cruiser to attack

The tuning continues. Changed values:

* Learned how to copy and paste text in vim http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
* Corrected troop transports and passenger liners not spawning in HX42 and HX44
* Corrected some issues with the liberty ship adoption curve not being applied
* Added KX as a Torch invasion convoy to ImprovedConvoys
* Added GUS to ImprovedConvoys
* Removed tugs, unarmed trawlers, and small coastal merchants, for now at least

IN PAST RELEASES: (These changes are cumulative.)

* Nerfed most of the elite escorts in HKs; Nearly all are veteran now
* Adjusted convoy escorts to rebalance skill levels
* Started converting inventory files and README to DOS format, \r\n

* Added 2nd Support Group to Bay of Biscay in '42-'45 (6 Veteran Black Swans)
* Added HG to ImprovedConvoys, including CVE in December '41
* Added CVE to UC convoy
* Increased ships in convoy for mid to late war years
* Reduced single merchant contacts off U.S. coast in '43
* Reduced ships in convoy for earlier years

* Added OG to ImprovedConvoys
* Changed Med single ship values to 20/40 from 40/40
* Changed some convoy SpawnProbability entries
* Changed ON speed to 9 kts, ON is actually ONF
* Changed SL speed to 7 kts from 6 kts
* Changed OS speed to more historic 8 kts
* Fixed Netherland in roster to be non ISO correct NE instead of correct NL
* Fixed lead ship being a neutral which is bad when leader is Swedish
* Fixed OB spawning way too frequently in '39

* Corrected rosters copied from America for NL and NO
* Added realistic composition for convoys in 1943+
* Increased escort AI to more reasonable levels (mostly Veteran, some Elite in 44)
* Removed America from HX41 since they're neutral for 11.5 months of the year

* Altered convoy reports, 39/24h/50%,40-42/12h/75,90,60%,43+/18hr/50%
* Changed British LL to Ocean class by name
* Changed VV introduction to 19440101 so it can appear in convoys
* Introduced Liberty and Victory ship adoption curves subject to tuning
* Changed minimum convoy column length to 4 from 3 ships

* Changed single merchant traffic to 20% off U.S. coast until 1943 (Drumbeat!)
* Changed single merchant traffic to 16% in the Mediterranean Sea
* Fixed bug where some convoys (SC) were original convoys, not ImprovedConvoys
* Adjusted '39-40 report probabilities and spawn frequencies (HX39 to 14 days)

* US and Med traffic corrected above to 2% and 8%, which they were already
* 1939 single merchant traffic increased to 8% from 4% (40 spawn, 20 report)
* 1940 single merchant traffic increased to 2% from 0.8% (20 spawn, 10 report)
* 1939-1940 convoy spawn prob and report prob tuned to reduce frequency
* Columns greater than 6 experimented with, for large convoys (may crash?)
* Contact Probability for OB fixed from -1 so reports come in

This mod was designed using SH3 v1.4. It may work under earlier versions, but
I have no idea. This mod is primarily a replacement Campaign_RND.mis file.
This mod will conflict with any mod that includes its own Campaign_RND.mis
file. This mod modifies files under data/Roster/*/Sea, changing the availability
date of a few ships and adding new ships for Norway and Netherland. The model
for the C Class destroyer is modified to support depth charges in 1939.
