View Full Version : Official: Heirs of Reginald Mitchell forbid the use of the Spitfire in Maddox' BoB...

Just read this in The Guardian On-line.

Seems the Mitchell family does not feel confident that "a Russian software designer will do the Spitfire Mk. 1 justice in his upcoming flight simulation".

Reginald Mitchell was the famed designer of several inter-war record setting seaplanes and also the original Supermarine Spitfire Mk. 1.

According to the family lawyer, Avril Loof, "Oleg Maddox has previously shown an anti-UK bias in other computer flight simulations, for instance by unhistorically limiting the Spitfire ammunition supply to just a few seconds' worth".

(I guess they must be talking about the Spit V in FB...)

Loof continues: "We will take the matter to court. With the Mitchell family holding exclusive rights to the Spitfire make and model, the infringement is evident"

I can't believe this **** is happening in the UK too, after the whole PF debacle with US planes!

Seems the UK Ministry of Defence won't enter into the matter either (even though I think the Spitfire "belongs" to all of Britain, not just to the Mitchell family!!). MoD spokesman Jonathan Beaverbrook is quoted for saying that "the MoD only copyrighted RAF roundels, but not the actual planes that flew them. Those were the war years, and MoD resources were better employed elsewhere than in copyrighting aircraft models."

****', this just has me down... - It's hard to believe the news I read today, but this one takes the prize... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

The url is not accepted.

Maybe I'm hoping against hope but the Guardian lacks integrity in my opinion. I know they give quotes and it doesn't look good, but I wouldn't come to a conclusion with the Mitchell family's resolve until confirmed by other sources.

Its a small point too based on Oleg's "bias". I would think proper understanding could be reached.

The Loofs have a long history of this kind of behaviour.

I have heard they setteled an agreement that they would approve the implementation of the Spitfire in the game as long it was overmodelled.

And for the luftwhiners: the FW 190 will not come in BoB due to historical reasons...

I have a Luftwaffe reconnaissance photo of an operational RAF airfield. The Spits stand out perfectly...hang on while I load it up.

Avril Loof? Yeah, he always seems to show up around this time of year in the media, must be something about WW2 commemoration ceremonies or something I presume. Luckily I have it on good authority that he is prone to exaggeration and distortion of the facts. I wouldn't be surprised if this whole thing blows over in a day or so http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif
