View Full Version : Effects Someone has to know?????????????

Ok im not trying to beat a dead horse here (actually my men are pretty hungry though some have resorted to fishing for food since the weather is so great) but back to the topic. I know after reading some of the readme files and also looking at the text file called "zones" that somehow effects can be altered and maybe even created. Now i guess this question would be pointed more to the people that have changed things like, fire effects, damage effects, smoke effects, and wake effects. etc. I see that when a portion of a ship or in this case my sub is damaged then it should begine to play effect "oil". (i know thats not the name of the effect file im using it as an example) This seems like a simple combination of math and codes. Lets say a ship has 100 damage points and the "oil" effect is trigered after being hit to a total of 85 damage points. This would mean that at 85 damage points the effect would play.

While looking through the zone text file I see examples of this with smoke, oil, fire etc. However I cant find the actual effect to modify. Say for our example "oil.tga" is displayed in our above example. I did a search and could not find that tga file anywhere.

Where are the effects files hidden and how can you mod them to your personal liking. I know n past FS sims that you could change hex numbers and make the effect stay around for a longer time or increase the length etc.

Somebody please help. I really would like to see if it is possible to add. Fires, smoke, and exhust to the player (my) submarine. I cant see a reason why you can not. Plus the event camara has anyone found a way to make there own movie and have it played based off a triger in the game.

Lets say that when damage points reached 35 out of 100 on the command area that a movie would play showing extreme flooding and men trying to stop it. Maybe a short wma, or mpeg video could be added. I have been trying to unlock the mystery of the movies and how they work but have not been able to even come close.

I wuld love to be able to actually play a movie or go to an outside view of my sub when it is destroyed. The so called death cam actually death screen needs alot of work. Has anyone unlocked these secrets yet.

sorry to ask so many questions SH3 is awesome but it still needs work and there have been some awesome achievments from the modders community. Keep up the great work. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Also one last thing please tell me how to mod weather or randomize it better. I have no luck at all in seeing anything but sunshine and calm seas since my recent install. Yes great weather but it does take the fun out of the game.

Thanks for everything

The TGAs are 'packed' in files, you need an unpacker and stuff. Sorry don't have the location of one, only hit the info while researching other issues. Sure someone here will know.

and more info at Subsim.com. Look around for the term 'unpacker' for info.

Ok thanks, now if you can alter the tga file is there anywhere that houses the properties of the file itself? Say for example the amount of time the tga or file is seen or last. Somewhere there must also be a spot that gives al the effects values so they can be displayed and condition that cause the tga to be displayed.

Thanks I'm gonna look into it.

That might be with SH3MiniTweaker. It allows you to change things like sound vol (for wavs), wave height, number of rain drops, water colour etc. so sounds like what you are looking for but haven't used it with TGAs myself, just sounds. Got it so the wav that sounds like rain hitting metal actually can be heard when you're in heavy rain on a metal sub http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I like the sound of changing the volume of a specific sound file how were you able to do this. I dont see any sound file tweek files. Think you can walk me through that process of changing the values to make sounds better.

Thanks again

What sound are you using for Rain anyways, custom made ????

Get MiniTweak program here

once you install, run the program. The tweak file you want to load sh3_sdl.txt
In here you can change any parm for the sounds.

Some sounds are totally busted (like blowing tanks) and no changes will fix that. But others you can make louder by changing the Volume (easier than editing the wav itself).

So for my rain change I swapped the WAV files
amb_rain with amb_rainlocal (both from the IUB mod). It's found in SH3/data/sounds, amb_rainlocal is the one you hear on your sub but I thought amb_rain sounded better for rain on your sub so I swapped the two around (just rename one to the other and vice versa)

Then with minitweak I boosted the volume of amb_rainlocal from 71 to 81.

Play around with minitweak, you can edit lots of stuff with it. Just always remember to backup any files first.
