View Full Version : Programming Question (another one)

hi there

this question is mainly for those who have done a degree - or are good at programming - or have a good knowledge of the way il2/FB's campaigns, missions and Dynamic missions work.

Basically (partially due to playing to much FB) I made a bit of an arse of my final year computing project

for my resit i was considering making a program around manipulation of Mission and Dynamic mission files - not unlike Uberdemons UQMB, but with personalised areas and perhaps graphics manipulation built in.

i know that basically graphics and set missions run from what is basically a text file and writing to text files is no big task. So does anyone out there know whether something of this kind would be sufficient for a final year project?

has anyone even done something like this for a final year project?

any answers - from anyone who feels they can advise me on this will be gratefully recieved

thanks,

fluke

edit - o yeah i would do it in VB6

S! Fluke!

You are asking the wrong people. You should ask you professor - that is the only one who can tell you whether or not your project is of sufficient scope...

It sounds like a cool project though!

thank you both of you, and i will be talking to my professor about it.

i guess i need to look further into the dynamic mission generator.
it's just from what i can tell so far everything seems to run from .ini (text) files. so at the minute anything i create would simply be based around writing to and reading from these text files - which on its own would not be sufficient (i don't think) for a final year project.

my professor (unless i am lucky!) will probably not know anything about FB - so i am kind of trying to get some info from those that maybe know more about how certain aspects of FB are coded, and whether it is possible to alter/tap into the code.

S! Fluke!

Take a look into our project at the Scorched Earth Warsite. The site is a bit out of date, but you can catch-up with our current progress on the forum. Or you can read some of the posts that have been made here. We are on the verge of releasing an open-source dynamic campaign system that will build sequential missions entirely based on the missions preceeding them. That's not exactly what you are doing, but if you can't use your project for class you might think about working with our project (since it will be open-source) instead of doing something from scratch..

thanks wall dog - i will certainly consider it - although if i'm resitting it may have to wait abit. but it would definitely be a joy to work on and be good experience for my programming skills.

o and zayets if i do do it as a project, and if i consider it good enough, i will certainly release it for everyone /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Hi there fluke39

IMHO your proposal sounds a bit light for a final year project unless you put a pretty impressive GUI on to it. Although most of us here would appreciate your efforts, I'm not too sure if your professor will have a clear understanding of the point in writing it.

I'm sorry to be negative, but that my gut feeling.

But whatever you choose, good luck anyway!
