I see nothing wrong with OT aslong as it somewhat effects the game, or our fellow posters in a positive way.

And posting it up front as OT helps us mods locate it fast and decide if its detramental to the forum.

Lets be clear. I've no problem w/ Off Topic threads, just the letters O and T in the subject line.

Now, see, why would anyone want to do this? It would be like having a sign on your car "No Insurance". Sure, the cops may not pull you over, but why help them out?

I've noticed that when you post "OT" in the title it's like "anal retentive" repellent.

When you don't use it, the "anal retentive" often post "OT" whines in the thread.

What's ironic, or moronic depending how you look at it, is when the anal retentive post "OT" in an "OT" thread,..... that's off topic isn't it?

OT means On Topic; the Rules slipped up, although I don't think its fair to condemn the Rules because of a single slip up.

You know, technically nothing in > General Disscussion < should be considered off topic....

This would be relevant if the mods did actually remove OT posts, however they don't. In most cases, if a post doesn't descend into a flame war and doesn't go too far into modern politics it is tolerated by the mods.

Take this thread for example. If ever there was a useless thread, this is it. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif And yet, despite being both useless and off-topic the mods have completely ignored it.

"OT" I believe is thus used simply to alert other forum members that the topic is not directly about the sim, not the same tired old ".50 cals are too weak", "Fw-190 is too strong", etc, threads.

Personally, I don't see the point is using the word "OT". Maybe its because most of my posts are "OT" anyway, in that they aren't specifically about the simulation, and instead usually about history.
