In this video Escape (http://www.gametrailers.com/player/21779.html) you can perfectly see Altair getting hit with a sword on a roof and just losing some balance. I thought they said that with one hit you'd be dead. What do you think?

they said to the head, they may also have some kind of cheat.

All the demos (that I'm aware of) at E3 are using cheats. Most of the time they only get one chance for each demo and they can't afford to mess up (i.e. dying half way through).

Too bad they made that mistake at E306, or was it?

I hadn't thought about it. You guys are probably right, they must be using cheats to avoid messing up.

That was X06, where the guy died at the end of the on-stage demo.

Good point. I'd of never thought about that but now that I hear it, it makes great sense...

I like to think it was intentional. Considering the work they've done so far, enabling a cheat (or at least temporary load screen for deaths) to keep Altair alive for the demo doesn't seem too hard. That combined with the fact that this occurred around the time that Ubi was releasing more peaks into the "Sci-Fi" elements of the game tells me it may have been their plan.

But who knows? Maybe they just didn't have time. =/

i think it would be frustrating to get killed on one hit. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

Don't get hit then...

but he does have a point. we (all of us) are used to playing games with health bars. it's gonna take a while to get used to getting killed quickly. im not complaining though!

when playing games on their hardest difficulty you goota watcch your health. it usually disappears after a couple of hits...

Neither am I. I don't terribly mind health indicators, but bars permanently stuck in some corner of your screen are annoying.

Imagine AC at it's hardest difficulty. A guard would swing his sword at you, you'd dodge but the wind from the sword would kill you

nah....it'd be more like an eagle poops on yer head and your head flies off. now that's realistic!

The poop would have to impact your head with enough force to snap your neck, though.
And, for some added irony, it could be that white hawk from the trailers.

hehehe. my dad has a PHD in physics. i'll ask him to right down the calculation for decapitating poop for me http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

That's the thing though you do die in one hit but you do have those times where Altair will autoblock (the health bar indicates how many autoblocks he will do it'll be a sloppy block that makes you lose position and kinda is like getting hit) and then once he runs out the next hit will kill him because he won't have the stamina or the stance to be able to block the attack so one hit will kill you but you'll still get those moments where altair will save himself which is exactly the same as getting hit in other games http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif getting tired of explaining this

Agent_of_Persia
07-13-2007, 11:28 AM
Ok, Im gonna bite your head off and im sorry about that but im new to AC. So that bar was his stamina?
Why, then, did it fill up when he counter-killed a guard

RetiredHatch
07-13-2007, 11:36 AM
i dunno exactly what it is maybe confidence but still when he gets hit and it depletes then he'll be unable to autoblock http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Pepedou
07-13-2007, 11:40 AM
I know he autoblocks, that's pretty cool but in the part that I'm telling you he does nothing, a guard approaches behind him and hits him with a sword and he just loses balance. Besides it happens two or three times in that video.

Yeah, that's what I was wondering, because the guy who handled the demo jumped around like he was on a certain drug the Hashashin were famous for, and took a couple of direct slashes.

killerbee1992

so...why did they make a health bar then? (with 10 stripes?)

I actually wasn't telling you Pepedou just the few who were complaining about how 1 hit kilsl would get annoying i know that was a mess up in the game cheat probably like everyones was saying earlier

another thing... it looks as though when he gets hit, he loses one of the little red segments in the red flashing bar in the top-left corner. Could this be a health bar i spy???

Explains the Gears of War PC, how his teammate got hit like 3 times, and got downed, and he was getting RIDDLED with bullets and lived without going red.

My well-thought-out and spell-checked response: *ahem* I think everything's blessed asling as one of the multi skins is wearing a top hat.

Hey, man, you gotta fight fire with fire.

Anyway, he got hit an awful lot in some of the videos without any sort of blocking animation and it just subtracted from the bar. I hope it really is meant to be a "block-bar" and was just used as a health bar for the demo. The awesome realistic death system is one of the things that drew me to the game in the first place.

EDIT: YOU SHALL NOT CORRECT THE KING!!!!!!

no offense, but i thought that i should point out that your "spell-checked response" wasnt grammar checked http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif you wrote "everythings" when it is everything's. i.e. everything is...you know what i mean...sorry, but i had to do it!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

i think jade said that tere shouldnt be any weird laws that dont exist in real life, so instead of a health bar, you have a block bar. it works the same reason as health and makes more sense than health. so ubi never lied, you do die in one fatal hit, nut that doesnt happen until altair cant block any more, i.e. he loses all of the segments of his block bar.

I know that's how it was supposed to work but in the video Altair doesn't block in 2 or 3 occasions and he just loses balance when the just hit him with a sword. That's why we think they were using cheats or something because blockin is supposed to be automatic.

ScytheOfGrim
07-18-2007, 09:08 AM
i agree. i think they were using cheats for te demo. i think in the actual game, if you get hit in the back when you,re running and not ready for combat, then the autoblock doesnt play a role and you just die.

sireatsalot91
07-18-2007, 11:49 AM
yea, i thought in the reviews of the demo people said you had to hold down the left trigger to autoblock, which really isn't "automatic", but it is compared to manually switching who you are locked on too and then prressing another button.

ScytheOfGrim
07-18-2007, 11:56 AM
bottom line is that you still die in one hit, technically speaking...

Kinkoman1337

I'm not sure but I think they said fatal blow will kill you not just getting hit

dragfindel

maybe the of balance thing is that he blocked at the very last moment? and if you block at the last moment you dont have enough time to brace for the impact of the other sword thus the offbalancing.
atleast that is what i think is also that are cheats being used at e3 but i think that the offbalancing part is plausible.
