View Full Version : Where have all the good guys gone?

No offense to those who still lurk and post around here, but There has been much discussion of late in regards to the poor attitudes and overall drop in the quality of posts.

I, like others, have noticed a recent upturn in both attitude and quality (i.e. more helpful posts), but was wondering...Where are many of the people who helped me when I was floundering with the likes of C.E.M.?

Michapma, SmokeJaguar, HeavyDelta...and the list goes on. These guys were such a great help and contributed to the quality of the forums. It's the old "chicken or the egg" question. Did these guys leave because of the declining quality of the forums? or vice versa?

Yeah, I've got a life too and heve spent less time here than in days past, but this game has (apparently) two more expansions/patches and considerable life left in it. So, I'll stick around myself

michapma's posting currently, and smokejag drops in every now and then.

Given the high calibre of their contributions, it would be great to see lots of posts from them, but you know, people move on.

If you want to find heavy delta, I believe you can find him here. (http://acompletewasteofspace.com/forum/). The last contribution I saw him make to these forums was posting the word 'lesbians' to every thread on the front page.

I guess humour is very much a matter of personal taste.

yeah jags stories and screenshots were great. I think they all stay at the cwos forums more then here. It does seem like the same 20 posts stay on the front page for 2-3 days

well the end of the UBI pilot lounge caused many to seek other lounges

not a critisism really just that many guys posted just to talk and also for game issues at the same time

some left because of UBI PR or lack there of, missed release dates, releasing news about new games to come out in over a year, etc..

now that is a critisism

You know I have not posted on this site for over a year now. And by far this site is calm, soothing, and relaxing.

Now you want to see a Message board out of control, If you have SWG go check that out. NOw that is nuts.

XyZspineZyX

As Johann says, at least for me, I just lost interest when UBI stopped trying to keep the excitement up... Bungled patch releases don't help either...

We'll see how 1.2 fares and maybe then people will return...

In the meantime I'm either in the Pilot's Lounge (CWOS) or FS2004 areas...

UBI got their way and drove many people away from these forums.

If it's no fun then, there's not much point in coming here.

A wealth of knowledge and experience has been driven away by the bureaucrats.

Enjoy.

Well it's hard for me to stay around often, when the topics are beaten to crap, from so may revisits

The whining is the highlight of every single day, and i've got plain and simply tired of hearing it from idiots that have never even flown in a plane, and telling Oleg and 1C that what they are doing with the game is wrong.

Oleg got so tired of the crap he ears, that he doesn't even bothers coming here anymore, and i don't blame him one bit for it.

I will come back as a regular, when the average mental age of the posters grows up a bit more, a lot more to be more precise.

Until then, i will stick with my matured crowd on CWOS, and only coming here, when i see a topic worthy of attention, with decent replys to it.

BTW resev, Oleg does come here. Just look at the ORR, I've seen posts from him quite regularly these days. You've gotta give him credit for this too.

Yes I agree it's sometimes hard to stay for a very long time when it's always the same topics that come back over and over. The pilot's lounge helped offset this, but now it's gone, it's just the same threads going again and again. Not that it's bad. We've all been noobs with a lots of questions about the game at some point, but it gets old.

Mostly I just HATE about 70% of the people that showed up here after FB was released. Most of us old-timers were just here to shoot the poop in the PL and add a bit of help and color to the GD. Once the PL was taken away, and I was confronted with the repetition of the same crappy posts over and over I got bored.

Then there was a concerted effort to clear out all the "Fun" people, and they were replaced by 15 year old CS/WWII on-line players with crappy attitudes, and More Euro-trash Ameribashers (note; I don't put all Euros in this category, just the ones that are)

All of this combined to make me say C-ya.

Its not the noob threads that bother me, quite the opposite, whenever i can, i like to be the first to greet someone into the community, and help them in any way i can, i used to do that a lot, becoming pretty much the welcome wagon of the community.

Its the idiotic ("The plane was much better than this") or ("part X worked like that, fix it imediatly") or even ("i can't beat the crap out of everyone online because my plane ain't worth $h!T, Oleg, Fix it NOW").

This is the kind of topics that i hate, that are pretty much commonplace nowadays.

People seem to think that Oleg is the entire 1C Maddox Games developers, when in fact he is "just" the owner, CEO, and PR of the company.

Thats the kind of disrespect i don't admit.
Blaming Oleg for what THEY consider as flaws in the game, its ridiculous.

You'l notice that when i talk about the game developers, i allways say 1C, and not just Oleg.
That's the kind of respect ppl around here should show more often, instead of dumping every consern of theyr's on top of him exclusively.

Not that I qualify as one of the "good guys" (or even care if I do), I will say that I really gave this place a try, and came here regularly for quite a while. I tried to do my best to keep up with things and help people out and share a bit of what I know about aircraft, especially when someone wasn't clear on how things were supposed to or really did work.

Now though, I've mostly given up on it. It seems that few listen, and even fewer even want to know how things work - they're much happier simply whining about how "unrealistic" something is, when it's really their own misconceptions about a given topic that are the problem.

I've lost count of the number of times I've read posts by people being flat out rude or abusive, telling me I have "no F&^%$@*%! clue" what I'm saying, when they are in fact, the ones who are completely and utterly wrong. It's truly amazing, but not in the good sort of way.

So while I can't speak for the "good guys" you may be referring to, I know that for me, the sheer lack of maturity and the seemingly often widespread "rush to embrace stupidity" that has come over this place in the last several months has me not wanting to return. I'll maybe look in on things a couple times a week at this point, but I seldom spend more than 5 minutes doing so anymore.

Ignorance is one thing, we all were at some point, and still are when it comes to certain subjects. That's fine, we all need to ask questions to learn, or are likely to have some misconceptions about how things work. That's normal. However, stupidity is something that just drives me crazy.

People who are rude, stupid, and proud of it... well, you get the idea.

You don't know us, do you?

Well i guess you shouldn't, you'r not "old" enough to.

This forum here, used to be the greatest forum on the web!

Why?

Because we made a forum, about a very particular genre of gaming, not at all popular among all any other genre, to become number 1 in the UBI top 5 forums.
Hell, number 1 in any forum in the web (search around the web and see for yourself).

If you think that's too much hot air, then let me tell you that we used to be number 1, AND number 2, when the pilot lounge was open.

Nowadays, the Splinter Cell forum is closing in very fast, and let me tell you, for a game that wasn't even out, by the time the veterans stopped posting here regularly, and doesn't even have a multiplayer side, that is just a downright joke!

That much should be enough to show you how much this forum meant to us.

We made this forum, we got the ball going, and made everyone follow it.

And now about the post counter.
Me personaly, i post on IL-2 forums, since they were on the BlueByte servers!

Do you even know what BlueByte has to do with this game or UBI for all that matters?
...........I find it hard to believe that you do..........

Since i've been around for more than 2 years, and only have a 2000+ counter, let me give you a hint.

1. I don't dance with spam threads, never, and those were quite often in the Pilot Lounge, reaching as much as 6000+ replys.

2. I hardly ever post anything with less than two lines.

3. I've been 7 months offline because of professional reasons.

4. There are only 2 other forums i attend to, and none of them is on UBI, wich means, no added counter.

Take these 4 points, reverse what i say in them, and you are looking to a V.I.P member (that means 10000+ posts if you didn't know).

If you think 2000+ (close to 3000 to be more precise) meaningfull replys are too much, i don't know what you consider a dedcated community member.

S!

Peace!

Hey M8 take the off of your Sig and it will show.

As for those other guys not being here. They won't completley leave. People get involved in stuff, other than this. I have squadies that love the game but the wife and kids keep them too busy. Some times we only get together when we have a LAN party. I only get away with all this because I'm a night shifter and they are asleep when I'm fooling around with it. and also when I'm at work I have the net and it get boring alot at work, and I get on here.
