View Full Version : SH4 and what it should have

What UBI needs to do is make a multiplayer where several peeps can man certain posts on a single sub (like IL2 has with bombers). So folks with team speak can man one sub at certain posts. Make a short campaign to run. Tell me that would not be cool..... They should also have the Pacific sub fleet! Your thoughts?

yeah nice idea for non-death mach type games.
Bit early to be disussing SH4 though innit?

I think most people just want wolf packs, milcows and ton of bugs fixes.
sh3 is great but just like its predecessor it was released unfinnished, hopfully the devs will make ammends with an expansion - in an iterview they said they had tons more stuff they wanted to add in the orginal, maybe your sugestion is on the cards, we will have to wait and see......

Talk about testing if people can work together with people. Somebody will definitely have leadership abilities http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif, I am all for several players in same vehicle, in some places it add and improves combat efficiency, say a two seater jet where everything happens fast and another pair of eyes help with the defensive work, what to attack the pilot (karleun) is allready focused on, or in a tank crew I can imagine is will actually add efficiency also with 2 players with 3 I dont know if a tank gets more efficient. In a SH3 sub ..... a chief engineer looking over crew, torp reloading, repairing damage and just make sure the sub is managed efficienly so the captain can focus on tactical maneuvers would be good but not add much but still good, what would a 3rd player do that an AI can not do??? Any suggestions? Anyways, adding this feature and let players decide if they want to use it is ok. Is there anything else we want fixed before this is implemented?

Well we have plenty of lists on this site for problems that need to be fixed. This is just a for instance when SH4 appears on market. IL2 has a program that allows all stations in a B25 and other bombers to be filled with live people. So the B25 has 6 positions for people to fill. I have tried it with my squadmates and its a blast. Talk about immersion in a game. So I thought a sub with 5 to 6 peeps manning the sub would be awesome. Tell me that you as a sonar man listening and giving coordinates to your live mates would not be awesome. Take it a step futher, design a game that has can utilize SH3 and surface ships with live crew. Now that would be interesting.

I agree with most here..sh3 remains unfinished.. but there's still plenty of time to fix things and add new. Like brothels for instance http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

isn't sh4 going to be in the pacific theater?

Yeah, just what we need, team mulitplayer so that I can REALLY YELL at the idiot watchman that was surfing for porn rather than watching for the Flower Corvette that is running us down.

isn't sh4 going to be in the pacific theater? I hope not. The pacific theatre would make a good expansion for SH3, though I would like to see a next gen engine developed for SH4, and have it still set in the Atlantic theatre. Either way, I believe it's still a little too early to be discussing SH4 when we still don't have SH3 at a level it really should have been on the day of its release.

Great game and all, but we're not quite there yet with SH3.

One must stop and think that patching is a fore thought to keep interest in the game and get more revenue for sales down the road. Perhaps the reason for the unfinished games. Just a thought.

I disagree, patching a product is using valuble time and rescources theat could be spent working on a new prject with money making potential. Devs and publishers make no $$$ out of patches as they dont exactly boost sales.

Games companies work to tight deadlines, some times things get missed by Q&A or took too long to implement. With the pc games market where patching is possible, to publishers it just means release now - fix later! make money, make money....
This cant be done in the console market so much, as console games cant be patched later, and the technical quality of the products is under the watchful eye of Sony/ Microsoft/ nintendo who have high standards, and will throw it right back in the publishers face if the submitted product for there preciouse console is a total bug infested mess.
But there is no such body in place to control the quality of PC releases - hence the amount of rushed games that end up on our shelves.

Or even worse, a serious language barrier:

Wathcman: "c0N+@c+: w@R5H1P B3aR1N9 035 cL05InG f4$+ R@NG3 $H0R+ "

Captain: "What?"

(for the leet impared : Contact: Warship Bearing 035 Closing Fast Range Short)

patch 1.4 sonar man with speech impediment

Now i think about it...thats not very nice, the sad truth is no-one with such a disablity would be let anywhere near a U-boat, the nazi's being the charming bunch that they were, would have shipped them off to death camps along with everyone else they dispised in the name of irrationality.....
God rest there souls.... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

My wish list for SH4:

that should avoid all the bugs and historical inaccuacies in SH3, that tarnish an otherwise beautiful game (I'm grateful that these are slowly baing fixed by patches)

2) A combination unscripted campaign like in SH3 combined with special missions randomly assigned to you via radio.

3) realistic harbor traffic

4) some chance of cooperation between players sub and AI subs (ie. wolfpacks)

5) an option to start out in or near your patrol zone. If SH4 is set in the pacific this will be essential considering the large distances involved.

Uhmmm... is there not the SH3 expansion to come out first?

06-01-2005, 02:48 PM
For the love of god, there is no SH4!

I have a dreaaaaam!!! I'm not trying to say anything special here I just woke up and havent had my coffee yet. But here comed my first sip (sluuurp), anyways .....

I have this idea growing stronger each day and that is ..... The game industry don't want to complete any games, they wan't our dissapointment to drive us an make us jump to new titles just to get dissapointed again and so on .... just a feeling I have.

Consumer organizations should get formed and get stronger so we get this money back thing. In different areas the rules are different, for example, few if any car dealers would get away with selling a car completely over the internet letting the customer just see a picture of the car.

No, the customer requires to test drive the vehicle etc etc etc, and it is not the same in the game industry, why???

Maybe we could download our games for free, and play them for free for 30 days, and the games be protected by StarFart version 87.3 pl 8. This way the games have to be so good you'll want to play them for more than 30 days, and if you are the first to spot a new bug (striking gold) your timer gets reset as a reward.

The way it is now .... it is a risk they actually earn money in more way than one by not really completing the games.

If someone makes a game so good it attracts gamers like flies to flypaper then when new games are release the salespeople will ask "where are all the gamers", they are still over there playing that fantastic game that was released 5 years ago.

So maybe things are just the way the industry wants it, having us move around like grasshoppers, don't give the junkies what they want, if you give them anything it better be dilluted.

What would a system look like that rewards companies to complete their products?

Anyways, had my coffee so back to topic, yes would be cool with a crew as you say sonarman, so who are the big actors in this SH3 MP Movie ... lets see ... what do you think?

[Captain]: give me range to contact 220 degree
[Sonar man]: uuuh sorry, multiple contacts, can't get range
[Weapons Officer] like in Das Boot being able to in parallel process 4 different solutions to four different targets for 4 tubes, would be cool, working with the people on deck to do this in parallel would definitely belong to the higher levels of sub combat.
[Navigator] some navigation, and can also use the observation periscope and argue with the captain what the AOB is to a target, then there should be a relive the captain of command button http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

.... many in the same sub sure could be funny .... 2 people in same sub functionality is a must though, will increase efficiency if fighting against human controlled destroyers, otherwise it is just AI and then we can continue like it is today.
