Hello all

I'm not sure if this is a bug or what but after TRYING to kill a P51 in my 109 G10 with its 30mm i got fed up and rammed it. I did this as i was sick and tired of watching 6 yes 6 30mm shells explode all in the same area and to have no damage at all. Areas i hit where the wings and rear fuselarge and it still kept going. It wasn't until i rammed it that i killed it

Is this something that needs looking at?

Ps can we see more bullet holes and so on when a P51 is shot up, just makes things look nicer /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Online of offline?

I've never had a P-51 take that many hits before going down. Heck, a quick pass with a pair of 20mm's should do enough damage to beat the heck out of the fighter.

There are fluke occasions with the DM but overall I haven't seen anything like this or ran into any trouble with the P-51's DM...either side of the equation.

This seems like a lag issue to me. Somehow the hits you're seeing aren't getting through to your target's front-end.

A Pony shouldn't soak up SIX 30mm hits...but I've seen it myself, so I know of what you speak.

I was off line. But when i took on the second P51, one hit from my 30mm removed its tail /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

No problems here. 1 30mm hit usually disables them or takes them out of the fight.

I've had it take over 10 MK108 rounds once, offline. I've also had it take two 13mm hits. It greatly varies.

BTW, love it when the engine starts to overrev and kill itself. Although I am more of an Axis player, I do like to take a spin in Allied planes now and than (doing a Soviet Grand Campaign offline, btw).

The Mustang is very much suited to my flying style, and perfect for Boom&Zoom. But she's not too shabby if put on the defensive or if you want to try your luck and accept a close in fight, although that is not her forte.

If you have the conversion set right, and if you have angles on your target, you'll rip enemy aircraft apart especially if you aim for:

1. wing(root)
2. cockpit
3. engine and or engine related systems

However apart from sawing the occasional wing off, it won't always be visible catastrophic damage. Never mind, after giving a good salvo, watch for better or more important targets. Many times you still get the kill or at worst you'll have to attack a second time when it suits you more and finish the job.

Mustang is certainly one of my favorite FB birds in terms of "balance" and personal style. But none of the US birds is a real stinker, all have their strengths.

Unfortunately I lost my heart to the 109 and 190 (although the Ki84 is capable of turning around the odds in a way few a/c can in FB).

I think that Oleg incorporated the luck factor into the DM, thus adding to more realism. Some pilots were just darn lucky after absorbing massive damage... Sounds like that AI was too, uh, er, until you rammed him. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I have fired up to 8 30mm rounds into the right wing of the P-51 (online player controlled) and the wing did not come off. Flying Bf-109 G-10.

I would be curious to find out what the ROF/firing order for the Mineschloss rounds is compared to the Incediary. Mk108 cannon has a ROF of 11 rounds per second. Do the incendiary rounds make the same explosion effect as the Mineschloss rounds when they don't hit a fuel tank? Do the Mineschloss rounds have a tracer effect or do only the incendiary rounds have one? Did they have a tracer effect at all IRL?

Russian aircraft require skill to fly.
German aircraft require ten times that skill, and one hundred times the patience!

flying a D9 i have knocked down a few 51 via top shots... ie coming from the top... a few times very small bursts from the 13mm and 20mm... so they dont seem that tuff... alot of times iam thinking iam hitting stuff with the 30mm when iam really not, its not a very accurate weapon lol

Didnt test it w 1,21, in former versions the Stang died nicely from a single hit with Mine shells, but I think its being the case that you keep hitting the stang with Brandgranate (inc. ammo). And, to answer the querstion, typically it was 50%-50% Minengescoss and Brandgranate loadout for the MK 108, one after the other. The Inc. shells, unlike the M-Geschoos, did not carry any explosives in them, rather an insane amount of incendinary material with a hydrostatic fuse, to be used vs. Boings fuel tanks. So basically they act like solid shots, not doing a particularly heavy damage (altough I have seen pics of dud 30mm shell hits on Marauders, its still quite conisderable, comparable to a 20mm HE round).
A good way to check out which shell you hit him is to set conf.ini line Arcade - 1 , which will show the effect of hit and fragments. With Mineshell hit, the plane looks like a hedgehog, Incandianry only makes a few *fragment lines*. Also, as been said, the effect varies greatly depending on where u hit, but I shoot down P-51 with just a short burst of 13mms (only intended it as a ranging burst...), but I was lucky and hit the engine or some other critical part, and the whole thing was set on fire and exploded shortly afterwards.

what i would like to see, is that incendiary ammo has something to do in this game, now it has meaning, havent yet seen any fighter burn from fuel tank hit, not by 20mm or by 30mm. why is that? self sealing tanks were so good?? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif i bet not. but lil deltawood around fueltank would be something different, againt that we need some 105mm howitzers at least.
