Mine don't explode, but they do seem to get abducted by aliens.

Wish to hell I knew! Mine don't explode, they just dissapear. I miss parking next to the AI flight that comes in, and if they screw up, taxiing into each other.

GregSM posted a theory over in the ORR forum that this is most likely to do with 'fixing' bugs in campaign mode. Planes that disappear after landing aren't an obstacle on the runway anymore, so the rest of your flight hopefully won't crash into them, zeroing out your entire squad.

It is a bug, there is a certain type of airfield, it looks like a triangle from above. This airfield has a parking area which is very far from the runway. So when aircraft taxi away and get very far, the sim engine asumes they crashed (ie. landed out of an airfield, missed the runway) and destroys them.

this is supposed to be fixed in the patch (the final - final patch)

in a similar way, PBY Catalinas exploded after they landed on water because they were far away from any airfield. This was also fixed.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I just did a fresh install and the newest patch and they kept exploding on my first airfiled. They don't do it on the current one.

I'm not quite sure but I think they count as squadron losses too (!!!)
