watching a program the other night on tv called the bombing war.covered ww2 and also spanish civil war.a german bomber was on the propaganda filmreel which i could not identify. it looked exactly like the russian tb3 4 engine bomber but had only 2 engines. open cockpits and gun turrets.had thought it was a ju86 but all pictures i have seen showed it with enclosed cockpits .anyone know what this machine was

There was no such German bomber in SCW. But, take on account, that the USSR made lots of fake propaganda films about the SCW using VVS types disguised as Spanish planes in both sides, and the filmreel was probably taken from one of those, so it could be a Russian bomber that took no part in that war.

In that case, I'd bet for Tupolev ANT-7 (R-6):

indeed , the Do23 was not used in Spain.
but as this motionpicture the topicstarter saw was general about the bomber war.

the Do23 is the german "TB-3 two engine" look alike.
