View Full Version : my interaction with the other AI pilots in my Squadron

During my air battle in single player mode, I would like to know how I am supposed to interact with my fellow AI pilots within the gaming system.
Specificly:
1.When they call for help do I break off any engagement I am in?

2.Who is my wingman and what do I need to do to bring him home safely?

3.A confusing thing about the radio calls is that there are no call-signs hence I am not sure if I am supposed to take any notice.

Obviously there are many other scenarios. I would like to see some disscussion on how to handle this side of the game and invite all to share thier experiences and views

Don't expect much from the AI in this respect. AI pilots can fly well but don't cooperate well. The radion commands leave a lot to be desired. Actually, AI wingmen seem to be doing a better job these days. As for leading a squadron. Forget it. The commands are incomplete and your AI will ignore your commands. The old EAW worked better than FB in this respect.

Uuhh, very sad to here, and i was looking forward to the day where i can command my squadron and keep it from making stupid things.
Think would be a good thing for maddox to work on that. Some like this.. "Number 2 attack my target (a target i designate with a key) on my sign". -> This would allow for more correct ground attack patterns.

You can't rely on the timing either, can't tell you the number of times a two seconds from being dead pilot acknowledged 5 minute old orders. Rejoining, crunch, right dude....... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Depending on your place in the line...if you are odd your wing man will be the # after you if you are even you are the wingman. I usuallky just try to come to the aid of any of my AI partners I see being shot up by the enemy. It would be nice if a "Thanks #1" or something like that could bbe added in the voice files. I guess we will have to wait for BoB for all that though. I asked Oleg about some more detailed commands but right now for FB it is a done deal..he did say that in BoB there would be more interaction with the AI as far as actual commands to them...

1. When a friendly calls for help, it`s down to you what to do. If you are not in trouble you should of course break off and try to help. I often do. All it takes is a burst NEAR the enemy aircraft and it should break off in most cases. Shooting enemy aircraft down is even better. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

2. As Bearcat99 said wisely, if you are no.1, your no.2 is the wingman. Also, when you go into combat your wingman will automatically drop in behind you, another indication. If you are last in your group (no. 4) or no.2, then you need to keep a watch on the number 1 or 3 - if you can.

"What do i need to do to bring him home safely?"

This, to me is a strange question. It seems obvious. Shoot down the enemy. If you find yourself in a fix deal with your threat first. Your wingman will always identy himself by saying, "This is 2..." If you are number 1 then you know it`s your wingman. Keep a note of what number plane you are then remember your wingman number. You can also order him to `Cover me` which means he`ll stay near you all the time.

If the enemy DOES manage to shoot your wingman down don`t worry about it too much. You did your bit, no more can be expected. As in reality, your wingman wants your help, but he doesn`t expect you to bail him out all the time. Try and protect the rest of your flight by shooting down the enemy.

3. Hmmm. Usually Calls on the radio are to do with your group. If you get a call and it makes not much sense, then it must be another flight. Just keep with your group and your eyes open just in case of danger. Yes, the messages could be more specific.

p.s If you get in trouble hit TAB- 7. The AI react pretty quick if not in trouble. Asking tower for reenforcements work well too.

p.p.s. Hanni8, you are being misled, you CAN target a plane or ground target and order your wingman to attack it. It`s the one of the few reasons to keep padlock on.

It`s not as bad as people say, it just takes a little common sense.

If it is prudent to do so then by all means.

If you intend to try and take a campaign to its conclusion then you will be glad of the experianced help as the DCG can spit out some pretty ridicules suicide missions.

When that happens, its much better to have that flight comprised of #1(you)at X amount of missions. #2 48 missions, #3 53 missions, #4 32 missions.

BTW, the AI IMO follow the basic commands better now than previous patches. Especially Loosen formation.
