View Full Version : Do not trust GMX. They are not an honourable company.

GMX, the European distributer have lied to it`s purchasers of BOBII WOV.

We purchased the sim with a very tiny (unreadable) keycard, small map and no manual. This was in the special edition.

After several complaints, GMX piped up (Sept 6th) and said they`d replace these items with a proper sized keycard, a manual and larger as advertised map. They asked us to post our details on their site and wait for 28 days.

28 days later... Nothing. Then we had a message that we`d get the goods in... 2 weeks.

Still nothing.

It`s now 2nd November and after nearly 2 months and responses to emails or forum questions, I have taken the unusual step of calling GMX liars and advising anyone to be extremely aware of purchasing anything distributed by these people as you will most probably be paying 30 for inferior contents. Any promises made by them to rectify this are worthless.

This also looks bad on the software company that uses them (though it`s not directly their fault).

This does not affect Americans since they wisely use a different distributer that provide what was meant to be with the sim.

Just a warning. Take heed if you wish.

Not sure how this is different from not including planes advertised on the box as being in a game http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Anyone in the UK contacted trading standards? They don't like people advertising things that they cannot supply - I think it's known as defrauding the customer http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Ok, Pingu. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

But really, I`m astonished and amazed by the actions of this company. To say they`re going to rectify a certain situation and then not. To string us along continuously when all they`re really hoping is that we will lose interest and forget about it.

I`ve heard about bad companies, but this is the first time I`ve seen such in your face bare-faced lying! This is the sort of thing that truly gives capitalism a bad name.

It would have been better if they`d never offered to do anything and had NOT taken our personal names and addresses!

@NorrisMcWhirter

Trading standards will be contacted too.

Oh, I can tell you how. Easy.

It's because GMX "piped up" and said they'd take care of it. And they haven't

Can you think of an instance were Ubi acknowledged the whole thing and then gave any indication it would be resolved by X date, and all the planes would be provided?

I sure can't. So that's how it's different.

Imust admit I had trouble with GMS Media when I bought a CFS3 add on from them. Shockwave were very good but GMS never replied. It took them months to send me the package even though it had been out for a while and they said they had sent it. I emailed them loads of times to their customer services and got nothing. I told them I wouldn't buy anything else from them.

OD.

No, I can't remember them (UBI) saying anything at all but I do remember Oleg admitting that the box design was incorrect (which helped in no way, shape or form and showed the release to be amateurish) and then it taking a *lot* longer than 28 days (it was the usual two weeks...er..many months) for the planes to finally appear http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

It`s not the same with UBI, NorrisMcWhirter. Not the same at all. UBI never promised us on the forum that they`d replace shoddy goods, take down our names and addresses, string us along then deliver nothing.

Yes, Bearcat99, I must agree with you. I`m sticking with IL2/FB/PF. BOBII wov leaves a bad taste in my mouth because of this. The whole thing has been bad luck from the start.

I don't visit the Shockwave forums any more since BOBII WoV was taken off my drive. Sorry to hear that no-one got their manuals. I had applied for the missing content from GMX too, but gave up expecting it to arrive a long time back. The game itself was also released in an appalling beta state with some game killing CTDs and other glitches. While shockwave did try and patch those fairly quickly the game has never run right for me or many other players. A real waste of money.

The PC games industry is so complacement these days and we just feed that by saying "oh well, it will be patched soon". Its enough to make you want to buy an Xbox 360! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

It didn't last long on my PC either. I said that I'd wait for the patch and the manual before reinstalling.

Well, it's been patched, but I'm still waiting... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

All I know is that Oleg said he didn't know that the box design featured aircraft that weren't flyable until it was "too late."

What will happen if GMX come up with the same excuse ? : "Oh...er...well, we wanted to ship the stuff but one of our marketing people er...printed the wrong thing and we didn't know about it until it was too late. We'll rectify the problem ASAP." And they do, but not after 28 days..but after knocking on for 12 months.

There is a cheap shot to be had but it's also a serious point that, from where I am sitting, GMX have done nothing worse than what Oleg/UBI pulled with PF.

And besides, in the eyes of consumer law, offering things that the customer won't actually get is wrong no matter what the past performance, whether the company gives 'free' updates, whether the cat ate the real box design etc or whether it is a real mistake.

Seafire: IIRC, Oleg did actually promise to rectify the mistake and UBI took steps to cover up the offending items on the box design so as not to mislead the customer. They didn't need to take down our names and addresses but they did deliver....eventually.

Norris

From my experience of bad products, trying to solve the matter via email or telephone rarely works. you have to go over there and kick the door down to get some attention.

Had time to reflect on this........

To be honest here, give them time... you say the packaging promised this and that and it wasn't there.............. these things happen,,, I seem to remember a game promising a FLYABLE Dinah once upon a time on the packaging... that was then coming in WXY weeks but then took XYZ weeks before we got it.............. don't remember seeing a post over at the GMX website rubbishing Olegs product because it was on the package but not provided or because the timeframe slipped.......... tolerance is a virtue

SeaFireLIV

I`m one of the most tolerant guys out there, taylortony, and I`ve waited and posted and written and advised others to be patient.

My patience has also shown on this forum many times, even with Oleg`s product.

But this is different with GMX, unless you`ve followed it from day 1 you would not understand.

It`s possible that GMX may suddenly provide the goods, but their whole attitude, keeping us hanging on and lack of information and updating us (except for the `2 week` trick) has been inexcusable.

Perhaps they will produce the goods, but when? When I and others complain hard enough? Or maybe not at all if they think we`re not going to do anything about it?

They need to see that we are not all kids who have memories of a goldfish and will forget if they tarry long enough.

But, whatever, Taylortony, I am not in this to argue with you or any other `let GMX have a chance` guys. I am simply placing a warning here, something I do very rarely and will not argue with others or try to convince others about the bad practise of GMX.

As I said before, take HEED if you wish. Don`t come running back to me if you don`t and they fool you too.

Hmmm ... another flight-sim-rip-off by a company associated with CFS3. Who would have guessed? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

But seriously, my heart-felt condolences go to all who lost on this one. I too am willing to support any decent effort in the flight sim genre. But GMX's association with M$ raised too many red flags this time.

How realistic that BOB2 is, if it isn't is it at least fun, and are there some things I should know before I install it(I got it as a gift yesterday).
