Many agree this is the best sim out there...me too....but the worst feature which can ruin a mission and campaign is the AI cloud factor. Can't follow AI into cloud but AI can follow me and kill me when visibility is ZERO.....that's really bad....no fix....bad deal....Yes I know I can fly with clouds off....so why have any then anyway. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

Clouds work really well online. In fact online its a very effective and very realistic way to shake opponents.

For real? The worst aspect of this sim is probably the boards here.

I don't say that because of this thread, by the way. This is actually a pretty good question

But for me, it's the childish, ranting, gimme-gimme, pouting, I-can't-back-myself-up-but-you're-wrong, I'll-reply-with-my-emotions-instead-of-considering-the-facts crowd that not only makes discussing the sim hard, but they ruin things because they are the vocal minority making the most noise

That's the worst thing in my opinion

Must sympathise with Chuck here - I don't find the boards that bad though.

Big Bear is reffering to online DF games where AI enemy planes are a rare ingredient to the combat. You will be flying mostly against other human pilots. I've used the clouds myself to evaid bandits. Of course AI controled gunner positions on Dive bombers and medium bombers are still a problem.

clouds...? Hmm. getting angry at AI for being too smart is a new one for me! I wish the sun was "sim Brighter" too. IRL your not supposed to look at it. The Sun really should blank out the screen. cheers

Even online, AI needs to be programmed to see the clouds. The *best* and most Complete concept of online war simming is human players taking the seats of AI planes. This will always assure enough online planes to sim an online air war, either human or AI. Although all AI seats taken by human players may be a desirable objective, large formations and intercepts/escorts may leave many if not most AI seats not taken. In this case, AI will need to be programmed to see the clouds even for online play.

Thir are FAR greater problems with AI online than that.

I like how the AI will suddenly collide with other AIs, or simply climb then dive into a hill. The fireball it pretty and I didn't need the 20 minutes fly time to target anyway!

That's the most annoying thing in my opinion and a well known issue. I even tried NOT using time lapse to see if the AI were confused by time changes. Didn't matter. They collide with each other and crash just the same!

Sadly, "Common Sense" is a ***** to program, if it's even possible to do at all yet!

Aside for that, I'd have to agree with AI seeing through clouds as well. But, the AI are still dumber than paint. They need some kind of advantage!

The AI arent as sniperesque through the couds as they used to be. Sometimes you can loose them.... a lot of times in fact.

My favorite AI moments are when I'll be flying along against lets say two Aces. I'll actually fly in between the two and instead of the second bogey trying to get on my tail he just keeps trying to get in formation with the leader. Other times you'll be on the tail of one of them, the other one flys by, and the guy you're shooting at will just casually join up with his buddy and fly straight and level http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif. I'm confident BOB will be better.

There are some things that need improvement, for sure. But some things are just not doable with the current engine. I can live with that. It does not and has not stopped me from playing this game for 3+ years. I still http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gif it.

BoB may address some of these issues. If not, then some other sim will. It's a neccesity to compromise complete realism with computer ability. That aspect is slowly eroding.

Um, Chuck, maybe if you didn't spend every waking moment of your life on this board you would have a less jaundiced view.

Seeing you've had more than 4,400 posts in 14 months since you registered ought to give you some hint about getting a real life, not just a virtual one http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

As to the AI, the same problems exist with any low visibility situation and it is a pain. AI can see in the dark, in the clouds, in the rain, they have built in radar.

But it's been that way since Day One. So, what else is new?

S!

To me the worst aspect of this sim is the way some of the objects look when you taxi past them..... some of the buildings.. the scale is all off... its something I can live with but some of those buildings that are supposed to be houses look like outhouses next to my P-47.

I don't fly any real bad weather missions, including night time http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif And I don't fly any campaigns all the way through without correcting unfair conditions.

The worst thing in this game is brownnosing on this forums. That's the worst thing in my opinion.
