Hi - I'd like some help with how points are scored online, please. So far, I think it's:

1)10 points for a kill if you are then killed yourself.
2)50 for a kill if you bail.
3)100 points for a kill then ditch.
4)200 points for a kill followed by perfect landing.

Please correct me & fill in the blanks if there are any. I'm also confused by seeing messages stating that someone else has "shot down" an enemy, followed by another telling me that I have "destroyed" him. This occured after I had shot him up on a previous pass. How are the points divided in this case, please? Also, if a recieve hits from an enemy, then crash later due to my own stupidity, does it count as a kill for the enemy?

I'd also like to know if "manouver kills" are recorded in the game, and if so, what the criteria is.

All help much appreciated.

this has been asked quite a few times and is still commonly misunderstood by many people. this is the way i've noticed the system works: the scores you get are for killing planes, most of them are worth 100 but a few fighters are 110, bombers 200, tb-3/pe-8 400 etc. the amount of points you actually get is a percentage of the planes value depending on how you meet your end. the percents are 10% for pilots killed or crashed, 50% for a bail over enemy territory, 70% for a bail over friendly territory, and 100% for succesful landing. so, for instance, you shout down a 200 point plane and crashed, you would get 20 points. or bailing over friendly territory after shooting down a 100 point plane will get you 70 points. if you damage a certain plane beyond a point (usually 1 20mm hit is enough) and that plane crashes, you will still get credit for that kill. no points are awarded simply for out-flying your opponent.

because the point system is so random, it is not really an accurate measure of pilot ability/skill. you should really play for the fun of it, not just for points.

hope that helps

Many thanks, Sheisty. Agree with your last point totally - I fly for the fun of it - just confused by points.

as long as you have fun, thats what counts. it would be nice if the point system was changed into something which shows hit % or kills/deaths. even getting rid of the thing all together would be helpful. maybe something like this will be added in the near future.

Very true. Showing a kill/death ratio could only be a good thing.

If you get an enemy aircraft destroued message and land at home safely you get 100 points per engine.
Example IL-2 =100 points. TB-3=400 points.He-111=200 points.

Also ground targets are worth points.I am not sure how much. But once again you get full credit for returning home alive.Get killed and it is only 10%.

Would I be too critical to show that the points sytem is relatively meaningless for online play? With the great variations in computer capabilities and accessories like track IR etc., it is hard to imagine it to be anything close to a level playing field.

Also, I've seen the quest for points lead to some pretty rude behavior. If a points game is what you are looking for, I'd suggest a game other than IL-2 Forgotten Battles.

a major problem with scoring is that its meaningless. if a pilot manages to shoot down 7 planes and is killed by the 8th, he recieves 70 pts. if another pilot runs into an enemy in a head on and manages to bail out, he recieves 70 points. the whole system is screwy.

Ok,

so how do I end up with negative points then :-)

Until recently I was always ending a session with negative points, it is only now that I have started to hit back and often finish with a half decent score (that jeep deserverd everything he got!)

I know points don't mean prizes and I will often not attack if I think I might not survive as getting home in one piece is what is important to me.

Negative points are for friendly kils /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif !!

Using icons?

A scripted server will give you detailed stats, hit % total hit % air, Kill/Death ratio etc...

Negative 300 points for a freindly kill, be it plane, ground or barrage balloon, and it sticks at minus300 per friendly weather you land, die or bail

my best -2100 after i hit (collided) a barrage balloon while chasing an enemy fighter then pinballed off 6 others, really sucked
