Type IIA beats it! There's no place like diesel submarine!

Typical MOD and Government - spend all the money on new warships and then wonder at a later date that they can't afford to run them.

Also, it's amazing that Professor Walter's legacy continues. His elektro boats really revoltionised the design of the submarine and this new British sub is a result all be it a few years later!

This thing will be 20 miles away from me at it€s home base, it will cut up and down the Clyde, I€ve been near one of these things on a yacht and there massive you don€t know till you see them in the flesh.

The money could build new Hospitals, schools etc even if we have the best Sick Kid Hospital unit in Europe it could be expanded. Total waste of time! Invest in green energy or something.

Couldn't agree more, Our NHS is falling apart and alot of things in the UK could do with the money. It does seem a bit of a waste of money and time.

Having said that, although I'm a member of HM Forces in a somewhat limited capability I will always agree with better kit and better uses of the funds available. The MOD has always wasted the funds being given to it. Take our assualt rifle for example (SA80) - it's not a bad rifle now, but the millions spent on it to get it right could have been better spent on buying a model "Off the shelf" models such as the M16 or HK G3 - rifles that have been proven. When your own Special Forces unit (SAS) say it's no good maybe someone in Whitehall should have listened!!
