So what Japane Carrier Would you serve on if you began at the Start of the war.

If you choose a carrier that is sunk, tell us where would you go next, to another Carrier, or to a land based group, but Try and Choose a Carrier first please

I look forward to your answers

The little understanding I have here, I'd say Hiryu, directly under Admiral Toman Yamaguchi, and not the wimpy Nagumo. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Either Shokaku or Zuikaku, because they participated in almost every major carrier battle (except Midway http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif ) in the pacific war, including Pearl Harbor, Indian Ocean raids, Coral Sea, Eastern Solomons and Santa Cruz.

The Japanese carrier forces sunk only 4 allied carriers during the whole war, and of these, Shokaku & Zuikaku sank two (Lexington & Hornet) almost alone, only accompanied by light carriers and the escort force.

Their fate was to be the only fleet carriers from Midway (June 4, 1942) to 1944 (excluding the slow Hiyo and Junyo, and the far smaller light carriers), when Taiho, Unryu, Amagi, Katsuragi & Shinano were completed. These 5 carriers could have been useful earlier, but they came way too late. In fact, all of them were either sunk on their first "battle", or being bombed to pieces while sitting on anchor. Shinano, the largest aircraft carrier in the wolrd before the US postwar supercarriers was sunk within TEN days of her commission.

EDIT: well seriously if I had to choose, see above post http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

If I had to choose, then it would be either of the two "Kakus". My preference would be none of them, however.

Any of them would be cool...as long as it's before Midway. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

Hosho.

She did not get sunk.

Adding the Ryuho to the Hosho, albeit Hosho is better as Ryuho's air wing got shot to bit in the marianas tuerkey shoot.

Add the small Kayio, used for ferrying aircraft...

This is like asking if you would prefer a cabin on either the port or starboard side of the Titanic... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

The three most common expressions (or famous last words) in aviation are: "Why is it doing that?", "Where are we?" and "Oh S--t!!!!"

Don't forget: "Hey, watch this!" and "I only had three beers this morning."

Yes , this was the only Japanese aircraft carrying vessel to successfully bomb the North American mainland (Southern Oregon Coast). They used an incendiary bomb in an effort to burn up Americas vast western forests http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif unfortunately it was winter http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif In the years after WWII the US sold Japan their vast western forests http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I was worried more about having a ship to come back to after the american's bombed the cr--ap out of every regular japanese aircraft carrier.. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Btw the Japanese were going to use this sub and aircraft combination for a mission on the Panama Canal locks to render them useless..

I wish PF had this... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif
