Great games every one of them, by far the best series ive ever seen.

And it wouldnt have been any good if the Aussies hadnt pushed us every step of the way.

Well done Australia. You can say you were a part of a historic series, a losing part...but still a part. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

No probs on the 18 years, now Glen and Warne are gone it will take you that long to steal them back off us again. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Fantastic series !!

The Australian team were the best and would in past years have pounded us English.

But for some reason or other our English side rose to the occasion.

The sports-manship between the sides will be remembered for ever. And I think that is more important than the result. Both sides should have won http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

My respect for the Australian side has been increased.Thank you Warne and McGrath for a Great match !!

Very Best Regards,

It was superb cricket by both sides. It made victory all the sweeter because of the class of the Australian team. Looking forward to the next one though it will be a shame Warne won't be there.

Yes, well done to England...and Australia. They both played well enough to get even me interested in cricket(!)

Now all they have to do is to maintain a trend!

Are you people talking about that sport where it takes a month to play a game and the final scores are in the tens of thousands?

Yes. It appears to be this way so you can spread excessive alcohol consumption over a longer period of time.

Nope' not sure what sport your refering to do u have a link ? .. the only game i can think of that you maybe refering to is chasing nice skirt for a final result sometimes that can take close to a month with lots of runs.

Great series!

It sucks that they still loose days for bad weather, by now they should be able to play on another day to make up the time. This would have created a fantastic ending, without England unfairly being able to waste time.

That even got on MY nerves and I'm English...

And I totally agree about Warne and Mcgrah, plus Lee actually, he did his share!

Flintof and Pieterson were the stars of England, if Pieterson hadnt made his 100, the batting order was collapsing quickly under the weight of Warne and co.

I feel a bit sorry for Ponting, they played so well and yet lost. Plus England used that 'Sub' cheat. (maybe not such a big deal but still)

I'm sad its over, roll on the next series..

Thanks Ozzies for a fantastic match only made so good by your class team. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Well, it was a fantastic ending wasn't it? Tense right until the end, even if the issue of bad light made it slow to finish. We were treated to the sight of a guy - Kevin Pietersen - getting up and giving his best at the right time, ably assisted by the blokes who partnered & supported him through a fabulous innings. Going out and scoring 158 runs against some of the best bowlers in the world to save the match & the Series - that is the stuff of legend. And it could so easily have gone the other way if those two catches hadn't been dropped......

I just wanted to say (before I got carried away by the memories http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif ) is that altering the rules would eat away at what makes cricket such a tactical game. The rules of the 5-day match are really clear. 5 consecutive days of play, two innings per side, and the game is halted if a) the weather makes it unplayable, and/or b) the light conditions make play dangerous or unfair.

Some tactical advantage has always been taken by captains when this occurs. It's the whole point, not being able to nip back on Wednesday and finish it off or whatever, the game has to be played out in the given time. And you can't say that England unfairly 'took the light'. Didn't you notice the Aussies scuttling off the field for similar reasons in the days before? It's just part of the game. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Our village team, bound by the same rules, would use the same tactics too if circumstances warranted. So would our opponents, and we'd think them crazy if they didn't.

What is this foot-ball of which you speak?

Actually, thats the only sport the Aussies could beat us at now...again. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Ironic that it was Warne who dropped Pieterson on 13, after all he'd done to keep the Aussies in the series... and that Pieterson, whose drops had done so much to almost hand it them, was the one who came through.

Amazing series. Long may such fearsome competition continue.

Indeed, a great series. I was shocked by how sporting both sides were. When Haydon squared up to Jones in the 1 dayers, I didn't hold hope for such a sporting match.

I disagree with x6BL_Brando - if there was a minimum no. of overs, it would still be tactical. Teams would still have to declare to allow enough time to bowl out the opposition. Often games (not this one) are totally one sided, and it's still a draw due to the weather.

But I don't agree regarding this series. If overs hadn't been missed due to weather, England would've been 3-1 up, and the last game would've been close, as Australia needed over 300 runs in a final innings.

Aye you SURE your English ???

You must be kidding, felt sorry for him.

Obviously you havnt watched any of the other Ashes series and have forgotten Autralias missuse of the Sub rule during the last Ashes, and its not a cheat, it is within the rules of the game. Also their blatent time wasting and umpire cadjoling has lost us many matches in the past.

Sorry, hell no, giving them a taste of their own medicine was as sweet as it could be.

The English are cheats!!!!
They bowled too fast, made the ball swing in the air, held onto catches, threw too accurately, and didnt give up http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif
Worst of all, they were ruthless and didnt give a toss about Ponting's whingeing about substitute fielders (and of course we have never used the rules to our advantage http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif).
Come on fellas, what's happened to the England that used to cheerfully lose at everything http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Tea? I like my tea mashed in a pot northern style. Proper man`s tea. Earl greys not bad I guess (had some in my Oxford/Richmond days), but a little bit like drinking hot water...

Yeah I saw that. What an idiot. Kevin played well in the last game, but he wasn't one of the top couple of English players for the series. He did finish with the best batting average, but made mistakes too (dropped several catches early on).

Fortunately that was just soar grapes, and not a view shared by many. The Aus coach chose Freddie as England's man of the series Saying they lost to Kevin is just a tv shows joke.
