To get a better understanding of where the PF maps are geographically, I've made this map from a satellite photo. Since I don't know much about the Pacific theatre in general, finding and placing the PF maps on the face of the earth, helps to get at least a geographical knowledge. I had no idea where Tarawa, Wake Island etc were before I started the investigation. Now I know. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif Here is my conclusion.

Great idea Raspball! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif Thanks for sharing that with us. I was wondering where some of those places were myself. I'd like to see a map like this of the original IL2 series/FBs too.

Dad, I left my heart up there.

You've got the Coral Sea 3 km too far West! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

On a more serious note, thanks for the effort.
Blenvid, there is a map for the FB series, somebody did it, but I'm afraid I don't know who or where to find it. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Anyone help?

Cheers!

This was a great idea. Now it is even more clear how much of the New Guinea theater we are missing!

Neat! You are going to make Tater cry, though. You upstaged his maps! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Also shows how huge the Pacific is...thanks Raspball - the map is definitely a "keeper".

Would agree that more of New Guinea is needed.

I'd also like to see some of China (for early war especially), and the Philippines in the game.

Due to curvature of earth, and perspective, the rectangles are not to the same apparent scale, though they look to be the right actual size. Hawaii is the largest map in game, for example at 1000x1000 kilometers. Thh NG map is actually smaller than the early Guadalcanal map (440x240, vs 500x500).

Still, a great perspective on the vast size of the Pacific Theater.

Wow, thanks for doing that, it all makes sense!

Im suprised how close Midway was to hawaii, I thought it was more where Wake Island would be!

My opinion is that this game will never be more than half complete untill a map is made including Rabaul and all of New Guniea or Rabaul going to Guadal Canal. The way the maps are now there is no way to play a historical or semi historical mission from a Japanese airfield in the new guinea or Guadal Canal area unless your doing a mission from a carrier. They should have at least included Lae or Salamaua airfields in the New guinea maps.

Yes i agree. Personally, PNG should be very detailed, as well as Darwin, Northern Territory, as well, yeah im an Aussie and the Pacific Theatre was the only Theatre of Operations in WWII where Australian men flew in Australian Squadrons led by Australian officers, helping Australian soldiers on the ground. Port Moresby and Milne Bay are of specific notice, as the P-40 and Hudson Squadrons there stopped the Japs from taking the Milne Bay Airfield, thus being the first Japanese defeat on land in the Pacific War. And these squadrons, along with the US 35th Fighter Group, with P-39s, with the Australian 39th Militia and the 2nd AIF Battalion on the ground pushed back the Japanese from taking Port Moresby, and therefore giving them straight entry to Australia, even if they had no intentions of invading, I suppose noone will ever know. Also, for later in the Pacific Theatre, when the Japanese are pushed back, "Fortress Rabaul" should definitely be a big slice of work there. Lae and Finschafen are of mention, as is Bouganville, which enabled US bombers to maintain an aerial bombardment on Rabaul.

So to top it off, a very detailed PNG is a must, along with Darwin and Rabaul, with possibly other airfields. Probably impossible to put in game, but nothing wrong with wishing, is there?
