View Full Version : Royal Navy and RAF Air Support

After sneaking out of the Bristol Channel and moving out into the Western Approaches I was detected by a patrolling Destroyer whilst running submerged. I quickly crash dived to about 70m and then went into silent running at 3kts. Obviously, I was anticipating to sweat this one out after moving down to 90m with 7m or so to the bottom.

After surviving several attack runs made by the DD I thought I would have a sneaky http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif look at the situation with the external camera, when I noticed a massive water splash/detonation too big for a depth charge in the same place where the DD had just dropped some DC's, I also noticed a small speck in the sky, I immediatley thought the Luftwaffe were comming to the rescue, until I zoomed in and saw a Catalina lending a hand to the DD.

Point is, I have never seen this kind of RN and Coastal Command support in this game before, has anyone else witnessed anything like this?

I've had this happen with the USN near the US coast (and in the Carribbean too I think).

I've had this happen on more than one occasion with the RN/RAF. I don't usually go far enough out to meet other nations (type 2s and 7s don't go that far...)

I was once attacked by maybe 3-4 B-24's when i was engaging a convoy south of Iceland, if i recall correctly, this was in the spring of 1943.

Luckily, they didn't know where i was so their depthbomb carpetbombings didn't harm me.

I had 4 Wellingtons i think they were (could be wrong) attack me after i put 2 DDs down in the port of Alexandria.
Shallow waters make for a scary escape.
I was 15 minutes late getting back to work from my break because of that mission! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I just took down a taskforce comprised of 1 Hunt 1 and two Black Swan frigates. I encountered them with a low battery in the Bay of Biscay (coming up to recharge).

Thankfully they didn't detect me and down I went again. I took all three of them out without a single wasted torpedo. Three shots, three kills.

First one (the lead ship, a Black Swan frigate) took the hit and slowed to 4 knots (from 11). It eventually flooded to death.

Second one (the Hunt 1 DD) got it in the fuel bunker and went up on a ball of fire. He had gotten the chance to go to flank and manuver a bit as he wasn't in a good position for a quick second shot...so I waited. He left a trail of burning oil as he went down.

Third one (the second Black Swan) took an inder the keel shot and split in two. This one was tricky, he'd seen his companions go down and had began running away and manuvering. I was half expecting the torp to miss him completely.

I could go 3 knots at flank at the time so it was lucky that I was able to get all three of 'em.

Anyway, after this happened, I surfaced to recharge some more. About 20 minutes or so after the last one went down I spot a few catalinas coming for me. I wasn't able to dive fast enough to avoid their first run. Thankfully they couldn't hit the backside of a barn...
Was able to get away from the planes after diving. Now I'm in the middle of the Atlantic headed for the Carribean.

Sorry, no screenies. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

How are you able to get the free camera up so high?

Nice pic btw. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I think it's all to do with the mods you have running, IUB and GW allow you to get very high in external camera mode.

Or you could just press Shift and , a couple times when in external view. It works sometimes, sometimes it doesn't. The manual talks about it on page 28 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
