View Full Version : Pictures of planes and racing cars at Goodwood 2007

Managed to bag a few snaps of some fine aircraft at the Goodwood Circuit Revival Meeting (old style racing machines going around a reopened 1948-1966 race track made from an old WW2 airfield peri track).

This years aircraft displaying were 4 Spits, Hurricane, Hellcat, Wildcat (Martlet), delightful little aircraft with very distinctive sound I thought, I've not seen one before 'in the flesh', Harvard and Bearcat.

Those not displaying featured a Spit MkVc, Hurricane, Dakota, Auster, Stearman and several others.

Not many pics of the aircraft displaying, as thanks to red tape and the need for public safety I could not get close enough to the flight line, even with my 300mm lens! I suppose it is for the best though. That is why most of the shots I have uploaded are of aircraft landing, as they were allowed to come right over our heads on finals. I hope you will find some nice shots for your desktops.

For those interested, I used an Olympus E500 digital SLR camera, mostly with a 150 telephoto, which due to the Olympus 4/3rds set up is equivalent to a 300mm. I also used my old but delightful Olympus Camedia D730 for one or two shots, and some dubious quality video. Not much wrong with the cameras, but the operator could be better http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif Lighting conditions were a little strange over the 3 days of the event, several of my shots being underexposed, despite my fiddling about with settings. Shots of displaying aircraft mostly came out poorly, being too distant really, so I have not bothered to upload them.

Also for anyone interested, I have provided a link for some shots of the motor racing (which was as usual very good), along with some very poor videos, which whilst not of very high quality to begin with, seem to have lost a lot of quality being uploaded http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

My pleasure, the aircraft and the racing were very good. The women dressed in their 1950s finery looked stunning also, but I did not take any pictures of them, my wife would probably knee me somewhere sensitive. Must have been interesting times in those years.

No problems SlickStick, thought I would throw in a couple of Spits for ya. Good to see you around.

Those planes are fine, but that Lotus 49 really made my heart skip a beat. Lotus 49 & Jim Clark. 'Nuff said!

Yes, I will take the Lotus 49 as well, thankyou. Seeing a 1968 Gold Leaf Lotus 49 at Road America a few years ago, screaming out of the woods at full revs down the gears and on the brakes... Is undescribable.
