View Full Version : Offline play: difficult...

I was messing around with QMB playing a zero 21 vs a p-39D. AI is too uber.

I did a test at 30000ft: at this height the zero would be MUCH faster than a p-39, yet no... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

IL2 1946 P-39 accelerates faster, flies faster at all altitudes than the zero 21 which is totally incorrect. In reality: the zero was totally superior in all flight regimes at greater than 15000ft to the P-39.

Why does AI have to be uber??? This makes enjoyable realistic offline play difficult.

i wouldnt think a zero would be noticably faster at that altitude, neither of them should be great up there...

anyway im gona say it before someone else does, your post is complete bull****, where are your sources, proofs, tracks??? ETC ETC

if you dont have any go away with this whining, or stick to online.

waste.

AI ftw!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif

Not sure what to say here...

You`ve done this short test and offline play is now impossible? Can`t agree.

Also, there`s very little info on what you or the AI is doing. Your flying settings for example. AI difficulty. Supercharger? prop-pitch? mix? TRIM?

Or did you get owned and just had to vent? cos that what it sounds like.

Playing the game for over 5 years. Full real settings. 3x zero at VEt, 3x P-39D at avg.

Before 1946, This scenario I mentioned was a pushover for the Zero. I know all about CEM and all settings were fine for this altitude.

Something happened between AEP and 1946

zero 21 vs a p-39D.
D what? 1 or 2.
It makes a big difference whether D-1 or D-2.
The D-2 is very powerful, some say, ahistorically powerful.
Historic encounters should use P-39 D-1, with a far less powerful engine.

3 years, 8 patches, among them one bringing in a totally expanded flight model with torgue, slide slip, trimming etc.

Well had a go on your scenarion in QMB. okinawa, full fuel. No icons. 3 P39 D1s ( I think D1s didn`t check, but should be) and 3 Zero 21s with one of them me.

The battle went against us first, with the P39s zero on and attacking one AI zero, hitting it slightly. They both dived and I followed hard. The P39 being warned or noticing me broke off and then i found myself chasing it. We were at 6500 feet by this time. It certainly kept ahead of me well, but by using a bit of trim I started closing, as i came to a near solution, his best m8 (another P39) started shooting me. I caled the other zeros who`d gone off after the last P39.

The 2 zeros took the P39 off my tail, damaging it. I went off after the first damaging it and it started streaming fuel.

Then i endured a looong chase after it, finally shooting it down. In the meantime, the other zeros sent the wounded other p39 down in flames.

I went after the last P39 who I think was running home and shot his wing off.

No Zero 21 (1941) was shot down.

Perhaps you had a bad day, or maybe you used D2s?

I think this was more just a bad day and vent.

Definately an AI thing then. We flew A6M2s on a 8km escort mission a few weeks ago. We were "intercepted" by P-39s and P-40s. I use "intercepted' in quotes because the US planes were practically standing still. It was a turkey shoot for our Zeros.

Online there is no problem. I just said that AI seems uber. I usually have no problems online with the zero 21

mike-espo,
I think the reason you've been getting a bit of flak in this post has a lot to do with your subject heading.
It's a bit of a broad statement, and as it stands is bound to invite trouble.
I have been playing this sim for 7 years now, every version from the original to the latest, and am very happy on the whole with offline and (only recently, for me) online. A word of advice for next time is to maybe make your subject heading something along the lines of; Zero AI undermodelled/overmodelled, something like that? It helps to define your query more specifically, as opposed to saying; offline play - disappointing.
That is most certainly not the case, you could still fly over 200 other aircraft offline, and be totally happy. I have one or two gripes about AI myself, but would never go on to say what you have in your heading.
Just a thought, dude. Peace.

D-1 or D-2. Big difference in performance. Not actually sure why but the D-2 is faster than even the N-1, Q-1, or Q-10. Try the D-1 or P-400 which were the ones that earned the bad reputation.

Thats because our D-2 has some fantasy uber boosted version of the Allison engine giving over 1500hp, thats why. A REAL D-2 would have 1250hp at best. Mission makers should always substitute the D-2 with either the D-1 or the N-1... the D-2 is just... fantasy

Thanks. I used negative elevator trim and I was able to pick up speed vs AI. I actually killed a P-39D-1 with a Zero 21... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
