Thanks for the update.

Hello (again),

I am sure you are aware but the file is a little on the large side.
I have ADLS or is it ADSL ?, anyway... I think all those with a 56k modem may find it impossible to download such a large file as most may be dissconnected after 2 hours.

While the file may be easy for me to download, others may be left out. Will or can anything be done for them ?

Thank you

If I understand this right, us 56Kers or more like 24K on me wet string, don't need this as we will not be running a dedicated server.

I second that if you could put out the "read me file" separat from the 320 mb download, so we can take it down and read it before we donload it. So the guys with ISDN, or 56kb modem etc. know what they are downloading /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif .

Also what is the prefered and minimum system for the hoste on the dedicated server if that is not in the read me file. thx.

It's the revolution in server-side, and you can play in more stable & various server.

99.9% of Counter-strike servers are dedicated server.

FTP is as fast as the connection you run, genius.

DL speed has nothing to do with FTP and everything to do with CPU/bandwidth of the server.

At the start of WW2 the German army lacked experienced anti-aircraft gunners. The average gunner was so bad that the USSR decided to help them out. They did it by forcing some of their pilots to fly I-153 flak magnets. These planes were slow but very sturdy. This allowed German anti-aircraft gunners to get a large amount of target practice on a relatively small number of planes. Thanks to the Soviets help, by the end of the war the German anti-aircraft gunners were amoung the best in the world.</center>

This is only for people who want to host a server on a dedicated pc set aside for such purpose. Either a second home box or by renting space in a data center with huge bandwidth.

It allows the host to run the game code without the graphics or other extraneous calculations. You cannot play this way, only provide a platform for fast, reduced lag multiplayer games. It greatly reduces the bandwidth required from the host to the player since no graphics are being rendered.

Most data centers require a dedicated server because their machines are not setup to run graphics, only perform calculations. This should open the door to many, many new 24/7 servers being hosted on hyperlobby and UBI. And, hopefully, a whole new experience in terms of lag and playability.

Thats right, except that it doesn't reduce the bandwidth required - that will remain the same, more or less. However, now the host doesn't need to send it's aircraft status and what it is destroying to each client. Taking away the 3D graphics rendering and sound rendering (environment rendering) frees up a lot of resources on the host's machine for more internal tracking. So CPU cycles are freed up to track objects, players, decoding/encoding incoming/outgoing information packets and other behind the scenes calculations required by a host computer.

IL2 FB Dedicated server.

The default path of the dedicated server is C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\IL2 FB Dedicated Server.
To uninstall the dedicated server, you need to delete the folder manually.

1. Launching.

The launcher is very easy to use:

Run GS_il2ServerLauncher.exe.
- Register on the USGS network router.
To do so, input the IP address and port of the router. If you have USGS
client installed on your computer, you may obtain the router address and
port by pressing "Download Info" button.
Enter your registration name under "Username" and password under "Password".
Press "Login" to register.
- Pick a group from the "Groups" list. You may renew the list with "Refresh"
button.
- Engage IL2 FB server pressing "Launch".

2. IL2 FB Server may either be run as a console application, or as an application
not using the console input/output. The mode is set up according to the 'IP'
key in section [Console] in confs.ini.
If there's no such key in the section the IL2 FB Server will run as a console
application.
If the key (IP=<TCP port>) is present, the IL2 FB Server runs as an application
without the console I/O. In this case, the program may be controlled
via il2sconsole.exe. il2sconsole interacts with the IL2 FB Server using the
TCP port specified in the confc.ini file (I.e. with IP=2000 it will try to
connect to localhost:2000).

In the [Console] section in confs.ini you can use key
IPS=<ip address 1> [<ip address 2>] ...
Here <ip address 1> <ip address 2> is a list of computer IP from which you
can control the server using il2sconsole.exe. In this case you have to
write IP of IL2 FB server as a parameter string for il2sconsole.exe.

il2wconsole.exe application is essentially the same as il2sconsole.exe, differing
only in interface, which allows use of the Unicode characters.

3. IL2 FB Server gets initial settings from 'confs.ini' and executes initial
script 'server.cmd'. When the server is running you can use the console
commands to control the game.

? or help - displays a list of available commands
usage: help [<pattern of commands>] - displays additional information
about commands
example: help mission
result: display string "mission [LOAD <name>] [BEGIN] [END] [DESTROY]".

mission - mission loading, running and stopping.
usage: mission [LOAD <name>] [BEGIN] [END] [DESTROY]
example: mission LOAD net/dogfight/sample/Islands.mis BEGIN
result: load mission Islands.mis and start it.

difficulty - Difficulty listing and setting.
usage: <empty> (list settings)
[WindTurbulence <0|1>]
[FlutterEffect <0|1>]
[StallsSpins <0|1>]
[BlackoutsRedouts <0|1>]
[EngineOverheat <0|1>]
[TorqueGyroEffects <0|1>]
[RealisticLandings <0|1>]
[TakeoffLanding <0|1>]
[CockpitAlwaysOn <0|1>]
[NoOutsideViews <0|1>]
[HeadShake <0|1>]
[NoIcons <0|1>]
[RealisticGunnery <0|1>]
[LimitedAmmo <0|1>]
[LimitedFuel <0|1>]
[Vulnerability <0|1>]
[NoPadlock <0|1>]
[Clouds <0|1>]
This command works only when mission is stopped.
example: difficulty Clouds 0
result: Clouds disappear from the game.

f or file - script executing
usage: file <file name of list commans> [BREAK]
example: file game1.cmd
result: game1.cmd executes.

exit - shutdown server
usage: exit
example: exit
result: shutdown server

All the commands may be included into a script.

Uhm a few simple questions.

1.What game type/s does this support, Dogfight, Co-Op?

2.Can the server be accessed remotely by moderators/admins?

3. Can maps/missions be added to the server remotely and then reset the game?

4.Can this software benefit anyone who has the game and a spare machine/server?

Anyway, I hope the answers are yes to all of these questions. If so KUDOS to UBI and thx for the software.
If not http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif.

Most of the big name games these days all allow this access which makes it easy for people to setup servers at will and remotely control them in their entirety. This application is super for league's or battles when it is neccessary to change the settings at will.

Almost finished the download, lets hope it all works ok.

Good news is, if the skins that come with it are an indication of what planes we will seen in the near future, at least some of us, including me, will be happy.

Bad news is, looks like UBI is trying to slow their network down even more, by forcing everyone to run the dedicated server on their slow and laggy game service. Hopfully someone will figure how to trick it.

The "Hosting via Router Problem" introduced beginning of August due to the 1.1b patch is still not resolved. Since then the ubi.com software is no longer able to handle hosting via router, only joining via router works.

However, hosting via router is required for the Dedicated Server as servers typically run in a local network connected via router, but unless the hosting problem is not fixed, the Dedicated Server is useless, especially since the DS may run at ubi.com only.

Also note that the max. number of players at ubi.com has been reduced from 32 to 16 last week. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

AAAAAARRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I really hope we dont have to use ubi servers and I have a damn good reason why not.

UBI sell their games in South Africa through a Company called Megarom.
As far as South African internet connections go they suck.
Lotsa people have ADSL but that has a mandatory 3gig cap on it for the month, Once the 3 gig is reached, kiss international bandwitdh goodbye till month end.
ISDN is the best bet here but still not very good.

My point is that SA players are basically bloody forced to connect to overseas games, This just screws everyone around.
COME ON UBI, For heavens sake have some consideration for people who cough up good cash for your games and that are not blessed with nice connections to the net.

Why the bloody stranglehold on this. Pls try and understand this from a South African gamers point a view.
If you want to force us to use your game service then get your finger out your butts and support our market properly with a local server and not force us to connect to something on the other side of the planet.

If I have misunderstood how this things works then I apologise in advance, but if I have got it right then I think its a LAME effort on your behalf.
There are other places in the world besides the States and Europe. You should know, you get revenue from them!!!!!!

I dont expect teh whole community to understand this, but then you donjt have to deal with it daily. Your pings to high m8, leave, or just get auto kicked all the time.

Funny thing is, take a game like Ghost Recon, another UBI game through Red Storm, that has a perfect remote server package included in the game,

IT SHOULD BE A MANDATORY FEATURE IF YOU ARE GOING TO SELL YOUR GAMES GLOBALLY AND PART OF YOUR NEGOTIATIONS WITH THE DEVELOPER.

Take a moment and think about it pls.
You guys dish out great games but lets not let the std drop here.
Flippin ruined my day eh, Im off to go get a Happy Meal or sumthin.

You may have missed this:

UBI game service (and forums) are undergoing maintenance today 9 - 13:00 GMT.

Last time this happened the hosting problem occurred.

Maybe they are now fixing it?

Fingers crossed.

Guy's if you do not host or do not have a Dedicated Server to put it on..do not download it.
Makes no sense..you will never use it!!!

I am trying to get it and will mirror it when I do get it.
On DSL it is going to take 8 1/2 hours...crazy.

I tried. After waiting six or so hours I got a timed out message. UBI needs to provide a decent fileserver with some bandwidth. You'd think after all the complaints over the past year it would have...only it doesn't seem to care. What a surprise.

I just had one question....sorry two questions...lol

Can the host computer be crappy, since it will not be 3D generating.

I ask, because I have a PIII 500 w/512mb that I'd like to use on my home network as the dedicated server.

Will this be enough machine to run the server?

AND

Can I access the server remotely (for example with a password) from another computer to change maps and setup and stuff.

I host a Ventrilo Server and I can remotely make changes to the server with out actually be on the computer hosting, just by entering a adminstrator password....is this possible.

I don't want to d/l this if I can't use it.

Thanks
