I got PF yesterday. Yay. I brought it home and immediately installed it. Without thinking, I installed it as the addon. No big deal, or so I thought, if it interfered with my current online play, I'd just use the AEP disk or uninstall PF. I played a little PF, really amazing stuff.

Then, it happened. I tried to start AEP and it didn't work. I really should have thought ahead, but it didn't occur to me that the addon feature would leave my AEP completely useless. I was still being optimistic when I tried to uninstall PF. At the end of the uninstall of PF, it tried to uninstall AEP! Now my copy of AEP is corrupted and won't recognize the CD. I should've just installed it as a stand alone....

Grrrr... Now I have to reinstall everything to get back to where I was.

I know that I'm a complete idiot, or at least that's how I feel. But I thought I'd put this out there for those who also might've missed the info that I did, and might not have PF yet.

It was discussed in the forums, it is in the readme, it is in the installation guide, it's in the tiny booklet that comes with the CDs.

What else do you expect? A tiny green man jumping out of your monitor biting your finger when you try to install PF?

well the patches have always worked the same way

once you patched FB or AEP you could no longer run the unpatched version or join an unpatched server

its just the way it is

Will the little green man be in a future patch? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

No, I didn't expect little green men. I simply missed it, and was frustrated that I missed it. I read (or thought that I read) everything before I installed. But, as stated before, I missed it. So I thought I'd share my little bit of heartache for those who might miss it too.

The title of this thread should've been, in retrospect, "Why didn't I see it?" or "Why did I miss that?"

I don't frequent the PF side of the forums that often, for various reasons. Nothing much was said on this side, or if there was, I missed it.

But then I'm beginning to see that I'm good at that.

Ah well.... Spam thread anyway right?

Does this mean there's no little green man? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

This is good news, I have a GeForce2 and was worried about the appearance of a little green blob. Another plus, I can take these darned gloves off. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

There`s a big massive splash screen before you install, shouting at you to Readme first. I can`t see what more Oleg could do...

I suppose (realistically) he could`ve added a loud speech file just before install , with a blaring siren saying, "This will no longer work with any other game that`s not FB+AEP+PF when online" With neon flashing lights But I mean there`s a limit to how much you warn someone... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I missed it.... Plain and simple... It happens to the best of us.... No one could have done anything more... I just could have paid a little more attention....

I'll know better next time... And I will definitely pay closer attention when I install software from here on out... especially dual install software...

Actually, not to be facetious or anything as it seems you are talking about on-line compatablity, but you still CAN play "AEP" because it is part of the game still. All the maps, campaigns, planes, etc etc are still there. So, actually, you lost nothing but the ability to join someone that does not have FB/AEP/PF installed.
