View Full Version : Well I gave you the yellow winged Dauntless, you better have the F4F-3 Escort :)

The stubby F4F Wildcat was the USN's second modern carrier fighter. The F2A was the first. However,
it is the Wildcat that was the primary naval fighter for the first full year of the Pacific war.
Fortunately, Grumman built a very sturdy and reliable aircraft that was able to be effectively used against the Japanese.
All use of the F2A resulted in devastating losses to the units that flew it.
The first production version was the non-wing folding, four-gunned, yellow-winged F4F-3.
These were initially painted in the very colorful prewar scheme of aluminum painted fuselage, yellow topped wings and colored empennage.
With the introduction of the war in Europe, they also added a 'neutrality patrol' insignia on the forward fuselage to show that they were not a
belligerent aircraft (like the yellow wing wouldn't have been a give-away!). The skin is from VF-41 aboard the USS Wasp
This plane has the green tail from that ship as well as white banding on the wings and tail and carries the codes 41F-4 which was the
VF 41 Leader of the second section.. Enclosed with this skin is an unmarked version in my Sparky401SQD series http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
allowing you to use the in game markings or add your own..

Beautiful, just beautiful!
A squadron of these and a squadron of your Dauntless's would look gorgeous flying into Pearl on December 6th, 1941.
Thanks Tony.

Great job!

I especially like as it takes me back to the time where my brother started making them aircraft modeling kits (I was too young for that then, though I completely made up for that later!).
He did build that yellow winged Dauntless at 1/32 scale ...

Right now, hanging above my monitor, there's an even more yellow winged model, a P12E ... ('more yellow' as it's one with a yellow lower wing, ánd a yellow upper wing http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif )

Thank You!

And a bump!
