View Full Version : TIR4..absolutely no comparison !

My last TIR was 1 and there is absolutely no comparison ! TIR4 is 10 times better. Just been on Quick missions for over an hour and it never lost centre once... a great pc of kit.

Just one question. What is this vector expansion activation and where do you get the serial number ??

Vector expansion allows 6DoF in games that support it. (so you can lean forward, to the sides, up and down and roll your view if necessary) The serial should be in the vector's packaging.

or on a small label on the chord

I upgraded from TIR1 to TIR 3 Pro as well (and reluctantly I might add) and can vouch for the dramatic difference in realized performance.

I have the vector expansion for my 3 Pro and question the performance improvement if I get a TIR4...but I'm still thinking about it.

I believe if you have a TIR4, vector expansion activation is automatic.

I can see the serial on the label, but can't find any vector hash ?? But I suppose with 4, I don't really need to do this.

Same here, went from TIR 1 to TIR 4, the difference simply blew me away!

I went from a 3Pro with vector to the TIR4 that comes with Vector. IMO it's not worth it. It's pretty much the same thing. I didn't notice a difference at all. If it's there I can't tell

Got my TIR4 Wednesday and absolutely love it. I'm new to flying sims and need all the help I can get, lol, still get shot down alot but it's more fun now. This thing rocks!

Went from hat to TrackIR3 as well. Still have to get used to it at times, I find myself on a ground attack run and instead of pulling up on my stick to climb.... I raise my head up and slam into the ground.....

Makes for good times. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

6DOF and Vector Expansion IS already included with Track IR 4. There is no activation needed. Nor do you need to do any menu selection within the TIR software for certain games that support 6DOF.

IL2 doesn't support 6DOF or Vector Expansion. Microsoft Flight Simulator and MS Combat Flight Sim support 6 DOF..... as well as GT Racing, and some others.

Check out Natural Point's web site for game support.

I do notice tha TrackIR 4 'notices' my body english more than my old Track IR 1. STILL LOVE IT THOUGH, and wouldn't fly without it.

I tried some chopper flying in BF2 today... Arhg! No SA at all without TrackIR. I noticed I tried to make the view change by turning my head a bithttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

But if I got TIR(4?) what would I do with my little finger, which together with Y key does re-centering my view? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

Some probably won't understand, but this is an extremely interesting thread, as I'm thinking about upgrading from TrackIR1 to TrackIR4. I wanted to wait for either BoB or the new LOMAC-Addon. But if the performance boost is really that noteable, I'll consider getting my Mk4 before that.

Upgraded to TIR3Pro when it came out vs. freelook/cam2pan.. man.. what a huge difference. So much better, it isn't even worth comparing the two.

So far I've owned a TrackIR 1, 2 and now 3 Pro but I don't feel there is enough advancement to warrant upgrading to TrackIR 4, maybe 5 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

So, what exactly is the advance. Okay, FPS and resolution - but is it really worth it?

I also use an active IR-light for TrackIR1. Using the reflective dots for TrackIR1 was very much useless with my glasses. From what I know the reflectors on TrackIR2 and later work properly. Is that correct?

Slightly higher res and a wider viewing angle...not quite enough for me to drop the coin.

I went from TIR1 to 3Pro. Definite improvement in tracking and smoothness. With added Vector clip, while I don't get the 6DOF, I do get additional smoothing and almost no need to recenter unless I physically move my chair. I've even gotten up to get a drink while on autopilot, come back, sat down and didn't need to recenter.

Like others I don't think the jump from 3Pro to 4 is worth it, but if I had a TIR2 or TIR1 I'd look into it.

I went from TIR1 to 4, after a lot of hesitation, but for me it was really worth it!
Smoother panning (a lot!) , and no more loss of center....

I guess the change from 3 to 4 is not that noticable...

Well, from what I read the only thing that Mk4 has an advantage in, compared to Mk3 is the mechanism, so Mk4 can be fixed to a TFT-monitor.
Dunno if the virtual doubling of the resolution really makes a difference.

My main question is: With Mk1 I sometimes get a lot of stutters when turning. I still play with 200fps and turning the view with a mouse doesn't cause this stutter. I noticed that these stutters dramatically increase, if the TrackIR "sees" another IR-source in it's field of view.

Anybody else had this problem and will this problem dissapear with a newer modell?

thanks

JG52-6High

Thats what i meant when i said "smoother panning"; nearly the same smoothness as mouse-view.
I`m not sure what you mean by "I noticed that these stutters dramatically increase, if the TrackIR "sees" another IR-source in it's field of view."
All i can tell you is that since i got TIR4 i never had any "stutter-views" anymore!

A hughe problem for my TrackIR is, for example, a lamp in it's field of view. The heat-source is noted by the device and the program sometimes tries to average all sources. The view then flies all over the place or slows the whole panning down dramatically.

JG52-6High
03-19-2006, 04:31 AM
Rgrt, i had the same with TIR 1 (not IR, but disturbing light sources), now with 4 there comes a "light filtering" option, i sit in front of a window in daytime and adjust the software so it only reacts to the dots, so no more "view all over the place".
Don`t know about IR/heat-source-problems, since i just use the vector-clip that came with TIR4, and haven`t had any trouble so far.
And Vector-expansion is included with v.4, so.....

LoneRanger, I had TIR1 and did'nt like it at all. I kept becoming disorientated, due to it's loss of centre and usually ended up a smoking hole in the ground. I ended up selling it on Ebay for about 20 quid.
Now TIR4 is a completely different story and as I said in the first post, I've played it for hours now and not lost centre or become disorientated once. In fact, if you leave a game to go off and have a coffee or something, when you come back and put your headset on again it's always correctly centred.
It really adds to the game reality and I can't see what else could be added to make TIR 5,6,7 etc much better than 4.
