View Full Version : Scorched Earth Online War (SEOW) and BOB

If you are not familiar with SEOW, please visit their development website here: http://seow.sourceforge.net/

SEOW is a coop based dynamic campaign system that allows all parties to create detailed mission plans that mimic the IL2 FMB in almost every regard. It is the most immersive campaign system that I have ever experienced after nearly 6 years of WWII simming and it adds to the enjoyment of active IL2 squad interaction immensely.

The developers of SEOW are always updating and adding new features to the SEOW system. I can't possibly list all of the great aspects that are currently available, but if you and your squad are into historical reinactments of famous battles or are just looking to mix it up with another squad online, SEOW is a great tool for you.

I am hoping that SEOW will be available for use with Storm of War and that Oleg will see that this system could be an invaluable addition to his projects. If anyone else here has had the pleasure of working with IV/JG7_4Shades, Murdock, Taipan and the rest of the SEOW development team, please add your voices to this thread. And, if you have not had the pleasure of trying SEOW in your squad, please visit the link above and check it out. You won't be sorry!

Thank you!

I'll add my voice to this thread, I can't possibly add to what Hitcher has already stated, he has pretty much summed up what I'd say.
Except to add that the quality of SEOW is breathtaking and that the SE dev team deserve all the plaudits coming to them
It's relatively easy to set up. The package comes as a Windows based Management console, a MySQL or Access database and a superb web interface.

Choose a ready made template from the SE site and you're ready to go.

Here's an example of the web interface.

Give it ago!

Just one thing.

Thank you for the ones that we tried.
You must tried it, and you will not forget it.

The posibilities that this utility brings to the online war community are endless! Oleg, if you care anything at all about this facet of your wonderful game, please consider including some sort of this SEOW functionality in your upcoming game, Storm of War.

For those of you who have wondered about Scorched Earth, please! you owe it to yourselves to check it out. You will be blown away by what 4Shades and his team have accomplished!

Scorches Earth Rocks! I have been playing this sim/game since IL2 became available in Australia. And playing Scorched Earth Campaign has brought more depth and immersion to this already outstanding product than any other third party contribution to date.

FourShades and all the lads in volved in pushing the SEOW frontier deserve high praise for thier continued work. WTE have been enjoying Scorched Earth some months now and it's great.

You gentelmen certianly have my and all WTE's thanks and support.

Oleg please ensure that these guys and thier work has a future with BOB:SOW

Just adding my two cents worth to the promotion of Scorched Earth. As campaigns go, its an essential addition to IL2 FB & PF. Hopefully for BOB as well. To those flyers who haven't tried it, give it go, you'll be pleasantly suprised. Yes 4Shades, back to Murmansk for me.

Regards Warg

I have to agree 100%. SEOW functionality within Storm of War would be amazing. I hope this is taken into consideration as well. I have had the pleasure of working with the SEOW Dev team. 4Shades and his dev crew are an outstanding group that have great vision and talent. Oleg working with the SEOW dev team would be a no brainer. It would only push Storm of War to even higher levels.

Scorched Earth is without a doubt the most immersive. If you like the online DF, spray and pray, click refly and do it all over again, thats fine. If you'd rather fly in a more realistic manner and have control over what seems like an endless aspect of supply, troop movement, ect, then SE is definantly something to check out. I for one think it would be foolish for the dev team not to at least take a peek.

Just a friendly bump for a great software!
I really believe that BoB should incorporate this functionality.
It is truly impressive what the SE team has done...they even worked out user defined carrier ops..!!.
"Back in the day" we used to run persistant world online coop campaigns MANUALLY..(groan..)and dreamt of something like this to handle the details for us...
In short,SE is the Holy Grail for your squads "Mission guys"...or for any squad that prefers the close to bone experience that online coops afford, the best part is your "hardcore" can plan and plot, but those less interested in that aspect of simming can simply contribute by thier participation.

Thanks 4Shades and the rest of the SE Dev team.

Scorched earth adds more "reality of war" than any other aspect of this sim and Oleg would do himself and SOW a favour by investigating this great immersion factor.
Thanks guys, brilliant work, just damn brilliant.

I am very happy to announce the creation and launch of Scorched Earth Xtreme! This website is dedicated to the active use of Scorched Earth Online War. My intention is to help introduce the IL2 Forgotten Battles community to this great application and help virtual squadrons begin their own campaigns. I hope to promote SEOW to virtual squadrons and players who have never had the opportunity to see it in action and hopefully turn them into SEOW junkies, like me!

Currently this website and it's forums are under construction. Please register a profile and have a look around. Let me know what you think and please make any suggestions you may have. I hope to have everything up and running at full steam by November 2006. Until then, I am actively working with AKA_Riviter, IVShades, Brandle and other friends of mine to bring this site to its full potential. Thank you! I look forward to many campaigns full of pure SEOW goodness!

We (www.vaaf.net) run our first SEOW mission last night and it was very successful! What a great tool! It has added emmensly to the scope of what small communitys can offer its pilots. Well done!

SEOW is the cat's meow! Thanks to 4Shades and the rest of the lads that developed it. AG 51 has been involved with it for quite some time, flying with JG11 in ongoing campaigns. It has been the best thing to happen to us in FB. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Look for public SE Xtreme campaign missions all through November. It's part of our Kick-off Blitzkrieg!

Shades, Brandle, Prof and I will be hosting missions nearly everyday at various times. These campaigns will cover many sectors, time periods and difficulty settings. Please vist the SE Xtreme forums for more details including schedules, campaign info and available awards.

This is your best chance to learn about the fantastic campaign system called Scorched Earth Online War! Just pop in and fly or, if you are interested, check your stats after the mission and even learn how to use the SEOW Mission Planner. We will all be happy to answer your questions after each mission. You can also post questions and comments on the SE Xtreme forums or send us PM's.

I hope everyone who hasn't had a chance to learn more about SEOW will take advantage of this opportunity. We'll see you in November!<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

VFsMA's "Kurski" Campaign (in Finland)

Our Kursk Campaign has ended at 40+ missions and i have to say that it was the best we ever have fought! SE has topped our expectations.

Big thanks for our opponents LLv34 that where against us.It's a though spot if your totally new to this program and don't know how it works.

They had bit of problems in first missions due to lack of mission planning now how but they soon got the hang of it and started hitting back.

We had our moments on the strategic side on controlling the battlemap. But they sure didn't make it easy. Good and fair fights and we Honor our mighty opponents.

Balance is most important in this system u have to have planes that are evenly matched on both sides.
So do testing before u start it up...

Also u have to know how ground units do against there counter-parts so they too get to fight it out if there are no airmen to stop that spearhead of tanks.

One more thanks for making this GRAND program!

And all those pilots who have participated in our little campaign here's to u also!

SE brings feelings to IL-2 flying.

Got to love SEOW, best thing for coops etc yet released, and the guys who created it keep on improving and adding new features I to hope BOB has some form of support for this

02-03-2007, 06:31 AM
We've noticed the newest version of SEOW has a problem that reports landed planes as having crashed with the pilots being killed on certain report pages while not on others.

Any info on when this might be fixed?

Hi Cossack13,

That is the first I've heard of it. Can you please post this bug at the Official SEOW Forums (www.raf74.net/seow/)? I can't regularly poll all forums for SE-related posts, so if people log bugs at the Forums in one spot, then everyone gets the benefit.

If you could please show some evidence of the error, e.g. a link to the relevant stats pages on your server, it would help me to understand the issue.

4Shades, posted to the SEOW Technical Support forum with supporting links.

02-06-2007, 03:32 AM

That is one of the best-documented bug reports I've seen in a while. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The admins of that campaign cannot find the eventlog now, so I can only guess about the cause. I suspect it has to do with the fact that SEOW relies solely on the eventlog for its determination of in-game events. IL-2 occasionally generates inconsistencies between the eventlog and the client log, and I suspect that different client logs may not always be identical either.

Normally, in SEOW campaigns where the "Enforce Landings" option is selected, pilots need to stay on the ground/carrier deck for a couple of minutes to ensure the eventlog catches up and records their landings. I have no idea whether you waited this period or not. Alternatively, if the campaign host deselects the option, SEOW will not care whether you land or not.

I hope this throws some light on the issue.

02-06-2007, 04:26 AM
Shades is right about client logs differing between client machines, at a lan about two years we discovered that no two clients eventlog turned up the same, which in turn lead to different clients recording different numbers of ground and air kills. As shades suggested we reduced these differences by ensuring that systems ran for a couple of min after the pilot had landed/crashed so that things lined up on most of the logs.

This in the end saved on arguments on who scored what and how many kills each pilot got.

We have just finished a thrilling SEOW campaign based on the Kuban map over at the DangerDogz.
Axis was victorious in a nail biting finish.
My congratulations to the original designers of this facility, it has really taken my love for the sim to another level.

07-13-2007, 07:12 PM
Now that is one intense coop campaign! Check out the stats: http://padin.mine.nu:8080/MP4/Statistics/MP-Missions.php?Sector=Kuban

07-14-2007, 04:05 AM
Yes and where all running out of steam...
We've got 2 more airmissions and two ground battle hours left and then we see who won the fight.

And we really hate those 37mm Flak guns http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif

If your Kuban stats are publicly available, post a link here. I love reading stats of hard-fought SEOW campaigns! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
