Yep, online play is that good. I almost exclusively play online, although it haven't been much the last year because of other sims. Now i'm starting to get back to it again and i can tell you it's superb.

It's pretty easy to get online, first make sure you have patched your game up to the newest v4.02 patch. Then download hyperlobby from http://hyperfighter.sk/ and install it. Then it's just to fire up hyperlobby, choose a name and a password and log in. Then choose your game. If you have a merged install with FB/AEP/PF you choose FB as the game, if you only have the standalone PF you choose PF as the game. I don't know how many that plays the standalone PF only game though, i think most people play the merged , at least at hyperlobby.

And, yes, it's free to play online http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

here is a quick start guide -

http://www.airwarfare.com/guides/flying_online.htm

It is free

Depends on what you mean by easy- yes its easy to get online but can be difficult and frustrating to start off. There are a lot of good players online but pick a server that suits your style - there are a lot of good ones to choose. All is explained more in the link above

It seems that the hyperlobby webserver is down, but i'm pretty sure it's temporary. Try again in a couple of hours or so.

EDIT: It also seems like the hyperlobby server itself is down, that means that i couldn't check how many that plays only 'plain vanilla' PF. Nearly noone uses the ingame audio communication function, but some servers have dedicated voice communication servers running where alot of the people on the server are chatting. The software mostly used for this is TeamSpeak if i'm not mistaken.

o i thought of anoother question i had . are thee more laggs and pauses in onine play?

Eightball_Syn

The All Seeing Eye is an online server browser, just as Hyperlobby is.

There are not much lag if you have a stable internet connection with reasonable speed. If you connect to internet by analogue modem then the speed wont be good enough. If you have broadband like ADSL or Cable you wont see much lag. You cannot download stuff while playing though, this will put too much strain on your internet connection and will cause lag. Oh, and the amount of lag depends on how far away the server is from your location. Generally if it's not on the opposite side of the world the lag wont be noticeable.

The"The All Seeing Eye" is free and "Hyperlobby" is to right

For voice comms I would recommend a headset with a boom mic. Some times with seperate mic and speakers the mic will pick up and retransmit what comes over the speakers.Using push to talk helps eliminate that problem.

Depends on who is hosting, or which dedicated server you join. You will certainly see more warping and lagging in online games due to various reasons.

If you find too few people playing only PF on Hyperlobby, you might try UBI.com, by clicking on the "Play on UBI.com server" button in PF Multiplayer menu. There are stand-alone PF rooms sometimes there, too.

To get some introduction, you can join any server, say hello to everyone, select a base already populated and ask if you can follow someone around from take-off. On good servers, people will give you at least the initial directions.

By the way, you ask waaaay too many questions. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Get out and try in - experience will answer your questions faster and more accurately than 10 pages of forum bull.. , ehm, I mean talk. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

I will second ASE.

Fire it up, refresh the servers, find one with the settings you like, right-click>copy server address to pasteboard> paste into IL2:FB join server window> get shot down

choose any of the three mirrors.
download
doubleclick, install, run, accept license agreements, click on forgotten battles, type a callsign and a password and then you'll be prompted I think for an email. Then you click on one of the servers on the left to see its difficulty settings and if you like it and doesn't seem too laggy (many green bars good, many red bad http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif) you click join session, or something like that. 334th dedicated might be a good newbie place to start.

I'm not sure what the problem you have is.
Right click on the link and save as ... to your desktop. Then unzip it and double-click on the extracted .exe file or directly get in the zipped file that you downloaded and double-click on the .exe.

The Forgotten Battles(merged FB+AEP+PF) room looks for only one file.IL2fb.exe.The Pacific Fighters room also looks for only one file.PF.exe.

So make sure you are in the correct room for your game.

If you are and it still can not find the file try the following:
1.Disconnect from HL.
2.Hold down control+shift at the same time you click on the HL connect button.
3.A new window will pop up and enter manually your path to il2fb.exe or pf.exe depending on what room you are in.
4.Click save and continue.

It's never too late to get shot down! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

If you have PF stand-alone (no FB, no AEP), have to select the file pf.exe.
