the raf/rcaf and other commonwealth units used two types of letter codes on thier a/c, round and square; my question is what were the parameters for the usage of these, i have seen pics of different squadrons using both types during the same time period, and most importantly i would like to know which type RAF 229 sqn was using after june 6 1944, i have not been able to find any photo's of 229 spitfires (code 9R) during this period when they were flying mk IX's.

thank you, any help in this matter is appreciated

Firstly your codes and those for all RAF Squadrons http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif BTW u can click under the squadron to see pictures of all of their planes used
