Does everyone elses 1946 game take an age to scan the disc before the game loads, and then fail 30% of the time with a timeout message???

Or is it just my system?

Its really starting to annoy me, took me 5 minutes just to get the game to start just now http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

No wonder NoCds are becoming popular...I am so tempted to try and get one.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

"Does everyone else's.........?"

Not here, it fires up every time. Is your disc dirty or scratched? It shouldn't be, so early into ownership, but you never know.

I would suggest posting a dxdiag in the Community Help forum - also check that your DVD-Rom is correctly jumpered and connected. Check the manufacturer's website to see if the is any up-graded firmware.

B.

Edit; PS, it's possible that your installation may be a bit squiffy, what method did you use? I.e. Full install, add-on or what?

No problem whatsoever here. it hardly starts the drive, then a few seconds later I'm in the game. feels overall faster then my old 4.05 where I used the rts.dll.

And I have deamon tools running at the same time, and nero installed.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I have the same problem. I have to wait half an hour till the launch menu appears -when it appears. Sometimes I have a timeout message, sometimes the unit sinply gets idle.

And after I launch the game, another half an hour before I see the loading screen.

It's a clean installation, BTW.

Thanks for your replies, its not dirty, I think its the Securerom having trouble with my Pioneer drive.

The disc spins fast and then keeps stoppping and starting for about 1 minute. Sometimes it loads, other times it says 'timeout'

I know I could get a no-cd easily enough, but I shouldnt have to when I have bought the game, it should work properly.

Seem ironic that a tool to stop piracy actually makes people want a no-cd crack even more. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I've not reinstalled my GTR copy since my cdrom burns... damned starforce, and this version of Securecom seems the same.

I still waiting my copy from Play.com but I'm just searching for the noCD...<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I'd like we legit users could benefit of things that non-legit users can. Like a safe, fast loading.

Pretty certain the f***ng pirates have cracked the thing since day 1, and the securom thing's only purpose now is putting us devote buyers on our nerves.

I would like to make a suggestion to those having issues. Please contact both Ubisoft tech and securom and provide them the details of the problems you're having.

tech support http://www.ubireg.com/uk/
securom http://www.securom.com/

I've been around this sim a long time, and when problems arise that can be corrected, the solution comes quickly. As an example, two months after the release of Pacific Fighters, some started have disc read errors. Ubisoft provided another rts file which solved that problem. Securom has been sending new exe to those having problems with 46.

For those who want to post on this thread and show their arse, I'm more than happy to provide a Christmas vacation 4 u.

edit: Got my copy of 46 a few days ago, and have had no problems. Let it install to its own directory, no files carried over from 4.05. Loads slower than 4.05, but always under 60 seconds. Launching from dvd.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

OK thanks for the info Steve.

I fixed mine now, but its good to know for the future.

Its not a big problem really, but it started to annoy me more and more

I just wanted to know if it was normal that it took so long to start up, I really didnt mean it to turn into a ranting thread. Anyone can find pirate software and no-cds these days and its lame, not cool.

We want to support the makers of games we like, so that they keep making such great games. Not stealing from them. We dont want to lose Oleg to consoles! (and lets face it, thats where the money is if he were doing it for the money)<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I'm sorry, but I take great offense to this:

Xiolablu3 wrote: "Anyone can find pirate software and no-cds these days and its lame, not cool."

I have been a faithful, card carrying member of the IL2 community since 2002 when I first purchased the original installment. I have purchased all previous games since including 1946 from Jason's crew at go-gamers.

"No-cd's" as they are called are certainly not "...lame, not cool" to those who have purchased the software. If in fact these aftermarket products improve one's gaming experience, i.e., no slow disc access, better performance, then one can not blame the usage of same, again by those who have made the purchase.

If Securom has in fact been "...sending new exe to those having problems with 46" as so advised by steve_v, then maybe these revised exe files should have been made readily available to the public, and reported on this official UBI forum from the onset, and not as casual information.

The fact is Frank, we shouldnt need Nocds. The game should work fine.

I am saying Nocds are lame becasue they are packaged with pirate software, thats where they come from, and what they are made for. Not to allow you to play the game without the CD after you have bought it.

Thats why they are lame, not cool. They come from people who are destroying the PC games scene, and why I didnt want to use one.

Although they can be useful after you have purchased a game, without pirate sofware, most of them would not exist. They are made by the pirate groups, who make them so they can distribute pirated games. The sites where you download the Nocd on its own have downloaded the pirated game and extracted the NoCd, thats all.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Agreed. Then make life hard for pirates, not for legal users. Actual copy protection methods have proven to be totally useless for the first purpose, and only a headache source for us, loyal customers.

I'm really annoyed of being mistreated while pirates laugh at me.

At least they could reward and compensate for bothering the legal customers with some non-pirateable stuff -like printed manuals, a nice package, merchandising items or privileged access to some servers.

Real advantages for being honest, and not only a clean conscience and a clumsy piece of software. A simple proof of appreciation.

I agree with Dux. It would be nice to have T shirts posters or books available after purchase. I remember sending for a Frontier T shirt http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blush.gif

I have hundreds of programs on my computer. Some of my graphics and editing software has cost me upwords of a thousand dollars per program http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Now ask me how many of these progs require a CD/DVD to be in the drive?

So why the fak should I need one for games that cost between $20.00 and $50.00. It's just not good business practice to s**t all over your customer base. Note this is not aimed at UBI in particular, but the industry as a whole.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Agreed, no wonder the PC game market is loosing out to the console scene. Copy protection in '46 has so far got me a useless copy of the two DVDs. I still play 4.05 as I have no success running my new copy of '46, since I refuse to run it with secuROM junk. I don't want anything even remotely like "Suk"-uROM on my PC!!

Well, I think some of us are entitled to feel a little bit naffed off when we pay for a product that doesn't work. I had to return my first copy to the shop and my 2nd copy was duff too. Only after copying the contents of the cd to a seperate folder and applying the nocd patch was I able to install 1946.

This is not a pop at Oleg and his team but at Ubisoft for making honest people jump through hoops time and again...<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Securom is still better than Starforce.Let`s be clear, there has to be some protection.I did not hear about any that hasn`t created problems before.

CD key thing prevented me from playing online many times, because ,as the program thought,my CD key was lready in use.Had to buy few copies of one game before.

Starforce was something so fecking offensive, that it actually made gaming experience bad in ALL games,as it infected the system.
Silent HunerIII for example I played, went through 1 campaign. Then I uninstalled since SF really influenced other games along with IL2.

Securom gives me no problems. No performance loss is there,no infecting other games.

Just a little longer to load up the game.

To keep my word to those who practice starforce I have resigned from buying following titles:Blitzkrieg 2,Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood,Codename: Panzers - Phase Two,GTR2,TRD3,Xpand Rally.

You f_ck with me,you lose my money.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I am 7 months late for this post but it seems fitting, 2 hours ago I was about to pick up the trio DVD(il2,PF,LOMAC) when i noticed a little warning on the back "notice copyright program may interfere with DVD,CD-RW and virtual drives" I became very sad when what i thought i was seeing was STARFORCE..after some googling i find out UBI droped them in 06 http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif but as i read some more of the posts in here I find out it was replaced by "securom" i will do some more research but if some one here would like to tell me how invasive it is I would apreciate it.

Oddball, you do know that trio pack won't get you online (speaking of IL2 and PF) with the latest version right?

If your going to pick a copy up, I suggest the 1946 DVD. Will save you a lot of frustration.

Just to add my 2 cents.

I have bought the original FB and PF and 1946. I love this game and wouldn't think of ripping off the developers.

I do wish they could have left out the Securom **** though. The constant usage of the DVD creates more chances of scratching it and the longer load times ANNOY me. SOmetimes it gets a read error and I have to eject the disc and reload.

It has annoyed me so much that I am tempted to buy a pirated copy just to get the NoCD file.
