BoB 2 from Shockwave.

Well, the 3d modeling a textures are indeed beautiful, but what is the game code like?

That is the important question.

12-23-2004, 07:57 AM
Is competition a problem?

Shockwave's BoB is a remake of Rowan's BoB. Oleg's is a completely new BoB from the ground up. I assume they will be different in many ways.

Here's the complete post announcing BoB, "Wings of Victory" from Shockwave. Battle of Britain: "Wings of Victory" (http://shockwaveproductions.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=363)

12-23-2004, 08:36 AM
I don't see it, but there's no mention of multiplayer or "online" play.

12-23-2004, 08:36 AM
I hope they do a good job - the original Rowan's BoB had much potential but didn't work out for me.
If its good I'll buy it and enjoy it - certainly won't stop me buying Oleg's work.

The original Rowan's BoB has online multiplay - though very limited compared to FB (unless its been updated since I last looked).
It supports up to 8 players - from the manual "In multiplay you can play Death Match, Team Play or several Quick cooperative or adversarial missions". The dynamic campaign is single player only.

The Shockwave development team may have reworked the MP engine - however there is no mention of it in their list of features.

Also there is no mission editor (though a very limited quick mission builder is provided - more of a selection of scenarios) the dynamic campaign being the core of the product.

Considering its pedigree and the feature list provided, my guess is that Shockwave are aiming at a solid single player experience with little if any emphasis on multiplay.

finally a real dynamic campaign on the horizon but there seems to be no mission builder.Lets hope they get the scenery right, lands end, white cliffs of dover, etc.

Sounds Impressive!!!

The "In Cockpit" Experience

o Clickable cockpits for the ultimate flying experience

o Realistic starting procedures via mouse

o Built-in native track-IR support with the latest 6 degrees of freedom support, including moving your head forward, backwards, left, right, up and down

Lift your head for a more, over-the-nose view

Lean out the window while taxiing

Keep your eyes fixed on the target

o The industry's best padlocking system

o The industry's most natural g-force movements

ü The Ultimate Dynamic Campaign

o Authentic re-creation of the entire Battle of Britain campaign

o Experience epic battles with hundreds of aircraft in the air

o Thousands of aircraft are tracked and combat ready from their historical airfields. Knocking out enemy airfields hurts the enemy's ability to launch aircraft from those specific airfields.

o Authentic radar and spotting system

British coastal radar network spots planes, reports data to central command, aircraft readiness is checked at nearby airfields and interceptors are appropriately vectored

Damaged radar systems create "outages" or "holes" in the defensive screen

Human spotters exist all over the British countryside, and their ability to spot is affected by weather conditions

o The entire war machine, down to just a single building is modeled

o Be the supreme commander or just be the pilot

ü "RealWeather" Technology

o Both historical and dynamic weather conditions exist throughout the theater

o Building storm fronts with towering storm heads

o Turbulence

o Real-time, in-flight weather changes

o Realistic weather forecasting

Can anyone communicate with English as a written language anymore? Do proofreaders even exist?

"Lift your head for a more, over the nose view"

#1, nice punctuation. This is supposed to be 'professional' copy?!

#2, my neck does not telescope. I can raise my body or sit up straighter, but I can only incline or recline my head

Sloppy text. But they make sims, not grammar books, so there's hope

12-23-2004, 10:50 AM
I read in the forum that the game will not have an online aspect at first. I would only be interested if it had a mission editor with coop play function.

Wait for screenshots of COMPLETE models for BOB by M.G. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Then will talk about competition http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I mean, it`s nice, but not remotely close, trust me.

12-23-2004, 11:34 AM
Those are some impressive features!!!
If Oleg can beat that in his BOB, I might have to change my mind and buy it(even if not PTO)

12-23-2004, 11:55 AM
Yes, both of Shockwave Productions, BoB and B17, will have full Tracker 6D support.

And just to remind everyone BoB is still in beta testing. So, the screenshots shown are not what the final product will look like.

12-23-2004, 11:58 AM
A little competition can be good...although I expect Oleg's BoB will be VERY impressive indeed.

Still, its a good subject and us sim people tend to gobble up most sims if they are good regardless. So it should be worthwhile http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

12-23-2004, 12:37 PM
Anyway, if there's someone else who thinks he can make money with a sim, then maybe there's hope for the genre... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

12-23-2004, 12:42 PM
Help me out here guys, where's the mention of the multiplayer features? Where there's smoke, there's fire. Well, I don't SEE any word on the MP stuff. Does this mean it's not there, and if it's not - it'll never even be second to Maddox's BoB.........

12-23-2004, 12:43 PM
I think Oleg's BoB will be very good. I think he will really consider the things that have happened regarding the PF situation. Graphiclly I believe BoB will be great. Hoping for good online play for those that want that and nice big offline campaigns for those of us that play them.

12-23-2004, 03:21 PM
Check out their forums there will be multiplayer support. But their focus is singleplayer.

12-23-2004, 07:07 PM
Looks really nice.

It cetanily looks as though they are into the SP and campaign experience. I hope the FM and DM are good too.

12-23-2004, 07:51 PM
sounds good to me.

I own Wings of Power, their FS9 addon. It is probably the most comprehensive addon product I've ever purchased. The quality of the aircraft modeled is nothing short of exceptional and each is a joy to fly. Wings of Power brings IL2 quality aircraft (modeling, graphics and realism) to FS9 with frame easy results.

Even more amazing, Shockwave charges a more then FAIR price for their product. Each of the quality aircraft in Wings of Power costs under $3 each and each of them is individually superior to addons of single aircraft that cost as much or more then the whole Wings of Power collection.

I've seen nothing but excellence and quality from Shockwave...and to top things off, when you buy one of their programs it's the finished product and is complete as advertised.

12-23-2004, 08:19 PM
Yay! More flight sims. Different features for a different experience. I'll definately give it a try. Won't change at all that I will buy every flight sim Oleg makes. Do you not buy Half-Life 2, just because you already have Doom 3?

12-23-2004, 08:50 PM
This is very good news for us , but a bit of a potential marketting problem for Oleg who will have to compete with another BOB game. History has shown that better marketting and name recognition usually outsells a better sim.

12-23-2004, 10:18 PM
Looks good, PF is ok online but offline play has always been terrible in the entire IL2 series. It will be nice to have some decent single player action for the first time since EAW.

12-23-2004, 11:07 PM
I think this competition will be good for Oleg's BoB, there are some good components in BoBII:WoV that would be nice to add, such as RealWeather with Turbulence and inflight weather changes, communications, asking for wind at altitude, ect. I doubt they will have Olegs realism, just by reading about it, it sounds too arcadish. Especially with quote "As a pilot, all you need to do is destroy the enemy when you can and get you and your comrades home alive". I think the navigation and long flights back and forth bring you and your plane together, making it seem like the plane is there for something more than its guns, or maybe a few bombs.

I'd be happy with Oleg's BoB if all he did was make a cockpit for the Ju88, added a Do17, and made a few more maps for quick flights, which I use a lot to scratch my regular itch for flying. I am trusting in Oleg, and I look forward to any news on his BoB! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

still we will need pcs that can power nasa for bob, and going from such a great plane selection of il2 aep pf to just bob is going to suck even if they are slightly higher polygons that dont mean anything to me and im sure it will be small square maps with bob.

Another thing is look at the fms of the hurricanes emils and spit5 of course bob should have the spit mk1a also the bf110g2 bob should have the c but look how 2 bombs effects its fm so greatly i dunno. Of course I will still buy it to support 1c and oleg. I hope they get another contract to do more sims even tho oleg said bob will be the last.

And after bob i will continue to buy wwii prop sims if they are descent. Still one has not come along yet that really gives you the feel of dogfighting.

The terrain does not look very good in rowans bob lo alt but high alt looks descent. the models dont like much better either but if that game can have massive multiplayer games it will be successful.

The one downfall is rowans dont seem to have any aids that prevent cheating which will flop any game good or bad.

12-24-2004, 10:38 AM
It looks impressive... we shall see.

12-24-2004, 12:08 PM
Hi all.

Good news with the BoB from ShockWP.
I have Rowans BoB (earlier type) with the newest patches, and like it a lot. But I fly The merged IL2>PF more regularly (online), have not tried flying BoB online.
Also have the usuals, SFP1, Lock on, MIG Alley etc.
...but somehow I seem to spend most time in IL2>PF online ?

So my point is you can never have too many Quality combat flightsims cause we sim-heads end up buying a copy of them all, that´s just how we "work" http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Merry Christmas to you all and Oleg & Team

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif LS, you're the happy guy that takes optimism to parties, aren't you? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Take it easy, lad... we'll see, we'll see. You need some rum in your punch. In fact, there's not much we know about Oleg's BoB yet. I also wonder if I'll have to buy Intel to run it, really... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

But, anyway, we have to wait, and see.

Just keep up the good mood! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

12-24-2004, 06:54 PM
No comptetiton. Oleg wins easy.

12-24-2004, 07:39 PM
Well if they can keep to thier word on the quality of the features of the game I will be buying it. Im not easily impressed by pretty graphics as i've come from a generation where good gameplay had nothing to do with graphical quality.

Personally I think the IL-2 series has been probably the most landmark WW2 Flight simulator i've ever played. But for all its concentration on flight fidelity and and graphical quality, I think it was marginally let down by poor AI after all it was pilots not the plane that made the difference. But Oleg has done stirling work nonetheless.

I'll probably buy both :P

12-24-2004, 09:51 PM
Wow, I bookmarked that S.O.B.!!!!

I saw that earlier today. I'll bet well be able to use the TIR Vector Expansion Pack in it. Shockwave did the CFS3 stuff as well.

12-24-2004, 10:48 PM
Sure 3d Graphics are nice and all but they mean nothing if there isnt game play to back it up. They are going to have to work hard to beat Oleg and his team in game play.

12-24-2004, 11:27 PM
I really enjoyed Rowan's BoB, so I hope this one doesn't disappoint. I'll certainly be getting this one if its campaigns are as good as the original's.
