View Full Version : How about G4M Betty Field Mod with cut down tail glazing?

I'd like to hear opinions on this. There were certainly many G4M's that had the rotating tail gun bit removed in the field. It would be a very welcome addition and perhaps not such a hard one to achieve either.

Maybe in the second addon? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif

And what exactly would be the benefit? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

i would like to have the G4M2 as a normal bomber - sire AI controlled.
but unfortunytly that would need a huger 3D modell overhaul , because, the G4M2 had bombdoors

You'd be able to see your target ? I don't know about others, but I find that thing manages to rotate in such a fashion as to be its own special plane-obscuring-device. What's the point of a gunsight when there's a bar across it ALL the TIME ?

A more traditional G4M2 version without the Okha attachment point would be a better choice than getting into field mod versions.

?? The flyable G4M1 has bomb bay doors too... I think the only real difference between the G4M1 and the G4M2 is that the G4M2 had different engines, different bomb load capacity, and laminar wings. Most of the G4M2 versions replaced MG's with 20mm cannons too. Making a flyable G4M2 might take some work for the flight characteristics, or it might not. But the 3D model would not be much work, if any at all. Keep all G4M1 flight characteristics, slightly increase horsepower, replace some MG with 20mm, and augment the payload capacity. I know it's prolly harder than it sounds to me, but compared to a whole new plane it seems easy.

Spoken like a bloke that has never flown the Betty!

Yes, the rotating cupola or turret, whatever you wanna call it, is a nice try and getting the plane to be accurate but it makes using that gunners station a tad ridiculous! Almost everywhere you aim, the frames get in the way of the crosshair making it near impossible to hit an approaching fighter.

The conspiracy theorist in me thinks it is a deliberate fault to make the Betty less powerful when attacking it from the rear online, because as we all know, 99.99% of online fighter jocks can only attack from the 6 oclock anyway, and we'd hate to upset their sensitive nature and customer dollars by blasting them out of the sky!!!! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Sure, I'd love that too. But I know we will not see it happen. The modded G4M1 seemed do-able though.

Nice pic Kelly BTW http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Mind you, I've flown the Betty several times already (mostly on Zeke_v_Wildcat). The cupola does pose a certain obstruction of view when somebody comes in from your clear 6 'o clock but add a slight angle and you will be able to shoot at him normally - maybe the struts should just be made thinner!?

the G4M1 had no moveable bombbaydoors. when the bombbay was loaded with bombs or a torpedo there were no doors at all.
in the game is it like that, no bombdoors.
the G4M2 introduced bombdoors.

I thought doors were only removed while carrying a torpedo.
