View Full Version : Saitek hat programming: Zoom in/zoom out

I used to have increase and decrease FOV mapped to my hat switch forward/back buttons, and this gave me a smooth and rapid zoom funtionality.

But like an idiot I forgot to back up my stick profiles during a recent re-install and I can't remember how I had them mapped in the Saitek software.

Right now; I've assigned both functions a keyboard letter in the IL-2 interface; and then programmed the same letters into the Saitek software as a simple command.

This works, but only partly.

Each press of the hatswitch moves the FOV one step, so I have to franticaly jab on the hat switch to zoom in.

But If I press and hold the keyboard letter I get the smooth and fast zoom.

Where am I going wrong?

Maybe you have to add it as macro?Or just add a preset FOV of choise, like I have http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Yes, I would record a macro. I am not sure how the programming software exactly works... You could try holding down the zoom in button for like 2 seconds constantly when you record the macro.. Then when you click your hat, it might keep reading it as the key is still depressed and thus, it keeps zooming in until the narrowest field of view. It might just read it as one press, and do exactly the same as before, in this case you will have to record the macro of you pressing the increase FOV 4 or 5 times, in rapid succession, that should work for sure.

Instead of a macro program an advanced command in the SST software (right click on box where you program the keypress and select advanced command). The key command goes in the press, repeat, and release boxes. Set the repeat interval at say 0.05sec or something like that depending on how fast you want to zoom the view. Then as you hold the hat switch in the direction it will repeatedly give that keypress until you let go. I have my hatswitch set up like this where it takes ~1-2sec of holding the hat direction to go from wide to narrow FOV in steps. I also mapped separate buttons to go from full wide to narrow in one step.

Advanced command is the way to go.
