ok ok it's not the most original thread but i've not been in the forums much since the patch came out so i'd like to hear what people think is best about the patch.

the thing that hit me the most was when i was test flying the hurri IIc - against 10 or so brewsters (nothing too tough /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif ) i fired off a round at a brewster, it didn't destroy it - just took a chunk off it - but i could see the plane rock as it absorbed the impact, and it twisted into a spin - all the way to the ground - it looked so real it was quite something to see, so for me i say thats the best thing i've seen yet- although i guess it could more than 1 thing as it could be a combination of plane physics, DM and possibly AI . Any way how about you guys ?? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Feels much more Realistic. Each plane needs to be treated with respect.

I can't say anything seems hugely different yet. First thing I noticed was the dust clouds at takeoff from grass airstips - nice touch.

YAY! The best thing about the patch is that everybody stopped whining about FB 1.0 and started on FB 1.1b instead,, way cool!!

Sod the improvements and all the hard work, that means nothing to the famed UBI Posters, lets just fly it for a week and tear it to pieces. YAY! well cool!

Nothing meant toward anyone posting here, just a feeling of warmth I get from the community in general /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

There are many htings like:...
Now you can finnaly shot down hurries in a Jug.
The Mk108 cannon goes straight so you can actually hit something with it.
It's posible to score a pilot kill with the Airacobra's Mg's..
and the effects are more great then in any game i've seen or heard about. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

WITHOUT A DOUBT:

adjustments to energy bleed.

FB 1.0's almost total lack of energy bleed made its FM a total JOKE.

That was the one thing that *had* to be fixed if I was going to stay interested in this sim. Thank goodness it was addressed.

I still think planes hold E a little too long in certain situations....but overall, the "feel" of the original IL-2 is back. And for that, I am VERY happy.

flaps seem to have good lift now, dust on t/o, wake over water, alot of fms and damage models are more realistic now, climbrates, divespeeds, ground manuevering, throttle response in the air, certain exploits removed, alot of the stick yanking avoid movement have been fixed, the 190s & mig3 need to be fixed now http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The campaign is now much more playable. The AI has been improved a lot (I even saw a Tchakya pilot panic and bail-out in front of me even though I'd yet to cause any considerable damage to him!)
I like the dusty runways, the improved draw distances...

OK so it's not yet perfect but it's getting there.

Dunno what is best... many things are better than before and sound is only thing that has gone worse.

Totally satisfied with this version now

Best things so far:

1. Energy retention in FM.
2. AI can now spin out of control and AI rookies are no longer perfect head-on shots
2. Increased view distance makes high-altitude flying less painful
4. The sound is better (when it works)

I can kill Rata's now/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I really hated these small buggers while playing the campaign, always ended up with a bunch of them against me since my wingmen usually tried to outturn them.

cheers for resposes so far guy's -
don't forget my question was - the best thing - meaning one thing - i know it's hard to single something out when there are alot of good things -but i thought it may be interesting to seewhat each person prefers - as opposed to seeing identical lists from each person /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif cheers

seen as i'm posting again i'll be a bit of a 'crit and say that i like the improved AI - seems alot more like a thinking person inside the plane now /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

p.s. - to snoopy - don't you start whining /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I don't really like to choose just ONE thing, but as you're twisting my arm I'd have to say the improved AI too.
I don't have an internet connection at home so can't fly online, therefore "realistic" AI is very high on my list of requirements.

The Stukas heavy guns now really blow most tanks with only a single hit!

But I wonder why they are no longer effective against aircraft... sprayed a million shells into a TB3 and othing happened exept for an aileron breaking off - very strange

AI gunnery is no longer insensibly accurate.

#3 Great things

More realistic FM

Awsome Flaps that actualy Work as they should

Cool Dust & water spray & snow spray

#3 Horible things

Sound Cant hear Gunz hit my ac,flaps lower Gear raise/lower
Prestall buffiting... sound goes up & down when it feals like it

Throttle is unresponsive in many AC (maybe this is realism not sure )

PP in FW & 109 Series Seems Wrong (IE cant use pp as speed break) FW is @ realy High Rpm's that could be accurate but WOW its high

I am still finding stuff. Just recently noticed that the Hurricane has only one notch of flaps for landing now . . . as it should be. Don't think for one minute that you cannot use them in combat. You can toggle them a bit on/off, and use them like combat flaps if you are careful not to let them go all the way down . . . the energy bleed will happen so fast that you may find your self a sitting duck, provided that you don't damage them by dropping them at too high speeds. This means that flying the Hawk will actually require a modicum of skill now. The technique previously employed by Hawker pilots was the "Yank the stick, it don't stall anyway" method.

However, so far my favorite thing is FM, and DM improvements. When I shoot a plane's wing off, there is now none of that appearance of "still flying, only now I am flying into the ground". All aerodynamics leave the plane, and it slams into the 'air' that way, and tumbles down. The first time that I saw this I had to stop and wipe the crap off my chair.

Oh, yes, I have found a couple of things that I will send in the bug report, but overall, this is WAY better than the box version . . . FOR ME, I'm aware that others are having issues.. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
