Sorry to say whit 4.06 I get 20-30! frames less then whit 4.04 http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Eny one else experincing this, or only me?

I have AMD Athlon 64 Prosessor, 3700+, 2,00 GB RAM
and Radeon X1900.

Whit 4.04 I have from 40-160 fps normaly, 40 in the most intense firefights over bases and citys, whit 4.06 I ofthen find myself whit 17 fps http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Yes, I think, I have it, too http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Have to bench it again with Blackdeath track to see if it's not just me http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

A64X2 4400+
2GB PC400 DualChannel
Radeon X1800XT (once had 2, but they made a lot of problems together http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif)

It now feels like on my old 2800+ /w 1gig & 9800/128...

But again, I have to check it with a track. Still have my old 4.05 installation so I have a direct compare.

Ok, im not surten how you people normaly use blackdeath to bench most acurate. But I did a smal test.

Whit fraps I tested my 4.04 and 4.07 on Blackdeath. I have everething on max, perfect mode and so on. Only whit one diference whit 4.04 I used 1280x960 32 bit, and whit 4.04 I used 1024X768 32 bit.

the result:
4.04 I got 16 fps at the lovest, around 40 normaly and ca 60 at the best of times.

4.07 I got 12 fps at the lovest, around 24 normaly and ca 40 at the best of times.

Can enyone help whit this?

As I already stated here:

http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/63110913/m/6441068115

I also experience performance losses with 1946.

There are hints that this may be caused by SecuRom:

http://gameswelt.de/pc/news/detail.php?item_id=61401

This article is about armed assault which was protected with Securom. After Users experienced performance losses, Bohemia Interactive states that these problems are because of Securom and are now working on a patch to solve this problems.

4.08 hopefully will fix this for il2.

OK, took a bench. I just copied my 4.05 settings to the 46 folder after I installed it, so they're set up identically.

BlackDeath 4.05: 46fps avg
BlackDeath 4.07: 34fps avg

That's more than 25% less... and yes, I had something around 33-35fps on my old rig, but with 1280 instead of 1600 res http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

That confirms my feeling... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

As for the secuROM stuff, maybe someone with RU version should test it. I think they always had StarForce and they still have it. If there's no difference between the 4.04/05 and 4.07m versions, it's definately the copy protection.

Some basic questions that need to be asked when dealing with this game and patches/addons and benchmarks:

1) Was this a fresh install or did you install this over top of your previous game installation.

2) Did you configure your game settings after installation or have you left them at default? If you did install over the previous edition have you reconfigured everything (that is a recommended step by many in the community after a patch)?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I installed over the top.

I did not leave it on default settings, but tryed default settings with gfx and sound already.

No Joy.

When I exchange exe, sfs, cor and snd files to switch bach to 4.05 everything is fine again.

ImhO the sound issue can be affected by this but I doubt it affects the gfx.

I just tried Soundblaster Live Settings.

The sound with hardware extensions improved. Still with a little echo, but perhaps it is supposed to be like this. My Microphone replay is shut of.

You get some whistling sounds when you are on external views ahead of your plane and fire the guns. Perhaps it is not a bug but a feature.

At least that pumping of the engine sound is gone now.

I also have the storng Echo sound, I tok No hardware acceleration in sound setup, then the echo disapered.

I have also tested version 4.05m and 4.07m with the "black death"-video. 4.07m is a fresh installation.

With maximum details the 4.07m version has got 2(!) frames in the average less!

Try turning off force feedback. That's what seems to be causing the framerate hit on my PC.

Trade your videocard for my 5200FX and maybe you learn to put the sliders down some when the
rate goes down.

Maybe you have uncovered the price of extra modelling down into handling and FM.

same here, i think it is from the deeper sound pitch changes and securom uses an awful ammount of resources in process's<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Don't know about others but for me the microstutters are gone totally and far less freezes ocur then on 4.05m version.
Yes it runs bit slower then before but i can live with this if stutters are fixed.

Anybody else noticed this?

Thank you good Sir, your coment realy helpt a lot http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif . Yes I could easly turn of some graphic settnings to make the fps better, that is not the point. The point is 4.04 runs perfect, and 4.07 runs so much worse. I wontet to know the reason, and if it was posible to do something about it.

At the moment I leans towards the idea that it is secureROM that is the cause.

BaronUnderpants
12-11-2006, 07:24 AM
Dont know if this has been talked about, but in 4.07 it seems that all the AI gunners ( the soldiers them selfes on flakguns and so on ) is rendered as default.

I seem to remember that they where not in Pacific Fighters due to the fact that they take up alot of pc power.

Could that be it?

From readme:

3d models of humans

Flight simulator includes 3d models of human gunners manning most of our guns on ground and sea objects, such as ship and land-based flak and artillery guns, drivers and other troops inside trucks and amphibious assault vehicles, etc. However these objects cause a decrease in game's frames per second when shown, especially when related to large ships such as aircraft carrier which can have a hundred or more of these gunners in close proximity.

Therefore we've made this feature turned off by default.

If you wish to turn it on, you'll need to open the conf.ini file inside your game's root directory with notepad, locate the
[game]
section, and insert the following line there:
3dgunners=1
If the line already exists and you wish to turn the feature off, replace the 1 with a 0, i.e
3dgunners=0

As i said, they seem to be turned ON by default in 4.07 ( they where in my game atleast ).

BBB_Hyperion
12-11-2006, 07:33 AM
20 fps less in average . Similar settings on both versions. And 3dgunner=1 i had already on before.

So far what causes it ?

new ai routines ?
new stick routines ?
securom ?

Anyone can track that down ?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Have you checked from sound settings - is your voice activated radio on?

F19_Ob
12-11-2006, 10:05 AM
I lost a couple or 3 Avg frames with a fresh 46 install but maximum frames were the same and minimum 2 frames less.

My online settings:
Frames: 7002 - Time: 147015ms - Avg: 47.627 - Min: 14 - Max: 87

My guess is that it can be the DVD that causes the drop. Maybe different brands of DVD works differently in speed or processing?

Still flows ok for me though and one stutter that I always used to have on the blackdeath track is gone in 46.

Hope u guys with problems sort it out...I feel withya.......next time it might be me. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Switching FF on/off make no difference in Frame Rates on my system... (Guillemot ForceFeedback Joystick)

Difference in Frame Rates between 4.05m and 4.07m is not there when sound is off (Sounduse=0)
4.07m does 3 FPS AVG less when switched on. (Audigy 2)

So, can it be the ones that lose that many frames are running SB Live! like cards with Hardware Accelleration on full?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Guys guys, I had the same problem then saw my old conf.ini had been overwritten. Put it back (had backed it up), and all was normal. in fact I knew this would happen and went into graphics settings and saw ALL were set to maximum.

PLEASE check this instead of going off on securerom or whatever.

MaJoWi
12-12-2006, 06:18 AM
It is not the change of the conf.ini or maxed out settings.

I get this drop using exactly the same conf.ini in 4.07 as in 4.05.

Water=1 is not playable anymore on my system, regardless of sound and catalyst settings.

With water=0 the drops are gone, but I loose the nice reflections of the ships on the watersurface.

I was never able to run with all settings maxed out with my hardware, but I could enjoy some of il2 gfxbeauty at least.

Take a look in the community help forum.

Joeap , please read threads before posting.

Has there been any official information on what's causing the framerate drops? It doesn't seem to be sound and as bizarre as it sounds it even seems to be affecting the UI.

Unfortunately... at this point, very hard to offer any solutions. Most of the people dont even have DVD yet. All i can do at this point is to make 3d programmer aware of the issue since i dont have DVD yet and cannot confirm your findings. One thing i mention... it has nothing to do with SecureRom... more likely it is installation thing, conf.ini related.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

It could be a number of things. One possible culprit is the new joystick routine. When building a cockpit for Lock-on I did a LOT of measurements and the graphs I recently recorded off 4.07 and 4.05 indicate that there's some kind of an extra CPU-process eating up resources. It COULD be graphics-related, but by a seat-of-the-pants -feeling I'd say it's not. The graphs are virtually identical in shape, so it isn't something that only appears at some times. This is a TrackIR track (4.05) recorded from an online mission, the view changes a lot, but it stays inside the cockpit all the time. I can provide the track to anyone interested.

I simply copied my old conf.ini and user files so they're identical. I don't know if that causes other problems, though.

There is something strange going on.Two squadmates commented on this last night. One,with a pretty low end machine reported no FPS issues. The other one with a new Core2Duo machine reported a big FPS hit (like 25% less) between 405 and 407. Both had copied over their settings from the 405 install.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I think it is due to new gfx routines. I only get the drop when I use water=1 and run 4.07.

4.05 and water=1 is ok.
4.07 and water=0 is ok ecept fpr the loss of reflections.

Thx for caring Ivan.

As far as I can see in the threads I read (hopefully carefully) it affects ati X-Series gfx-cards and water=1.

If I use the setup.exe settings for x8oo cards, conf.ini suggests water=0.

It affects the nVidia cards (7900GTX at least) as well. I haven't tested with low water settings, will do so once I have some more time.

LOL, no not 25%, make that 30%!

I ran my usual Crimea QMB mission where I get around 140-150fps at startup in 4.05m and compared that to the new 4.07. There I cannot even break the 100fps mark.

Anyway I did what MaJoWi suggested and changed water=1 to =0 and I now get my 4.05m framerates and they also do not seem to drop as much as with water1 - very strange!<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

aren't your frame rate problems caused by sound hardware acceleration - on? (that's what I get when I turn it on with my SB live! soundcard, or turn on recommended SB live! settings) And also one guy at simhq has reported that his framerate drop was related to TrackIR.

Just benchend again.

Turning off sound, TrackIR, and VAC with bilinear filtering gains 2 FPS avg in TheBlackDeath.

I put the blame on the new water=1 routines.

The issue is FPS < 30 when things get tough on the deck.

I do not care about 70 FPS instead of 120 FPS when I look at the sky.

I believe there is a well documented and ongoing frame rate drop problem with TrackIR that is either independent or exacerbated by 4.07. The Frames Per Second loss experience by some players when using TrackIR and playing online has been corrected."

Also I cannot even seem to choose perfect settings in Opengl with 32bit color and Stencil Buffering enabled.

Someting is definately amiss here.

I just wanted the extra trees perfect mode gave and some slight reflections in the water as ship wakes and stuff look a little wierd with water set to 3 anyways. =)

Just my 2 cents.

I installed 1946 into it's own folder today. This way I kept my 4.05 install.

I did some frame rate tests between both versions. I am getting a FPS loss of 10-15% in 1946 compared to 4.05.

All video, sound and difficulty settings are EXACTLY the same in both versions.

Personally, it doesn't concern me very much, since I am lucky enough to have a fast new rig. But, for people with slower computers, it may be more noticeable.

NOTE TO TESTERS: Be aware that a fresh install of 1946 seems to enable '3dgunners' in the conf file. This will impact your frame rate if you normally had that setting disabled.

I too found theres something that needs to be fixed because i have 46 with exactly the same setings as ver.4.05 and i lost the smooth frame rate i had before.

the frame rate drop happens when i look at any objects... even looking at an empty airbase from the air causes my frame rate to go down considerably.

when in 4.05 i can generate a quik mission with maximum amount of planes and have a smooth framerate, in 4.07 it turns in to a slideshow.

they have to fix this other wise i prefer to fly 4.05... a pity because i noticed all the cool stuff added to 4.07

No problems whatsoever with 4.07. Framerate is still the same with the same settings as 4.04. Just be really careful and make sure you are using the same settings, 4.07 out of the box does not have the same parameters as 4.04 (or an upgrade up to 4.04 that have been optimized for years).
Pay attention to 3dGunners, Water and effects option... and also your sound settings by comparing directly the conf.ini file of the previous and the latest version.

I mainly keep the game locked up at 60fps (which is the refresh rate of my flat screen), in 1600x1200 (perfect settings) as before.

In doubt, make a backup of the new conf.ini, and copy the old conf.ini in the folder of 4.07, then check what are the impact in the game.

It could be for real if it is hogging computer resources, basically running in the background during game play, tying up CPU cycles and/or occupying your system RAM. I haven't a clue as to whether or not this is the case, 4.07 is not yet available in the states.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
