View Full Version : Carrier Takeoff? (IL-2 Related) IBTL

05-27-2007, 07:39 AM
I was trying many times to takeoff from carrier in F4U, F6F,.. some SDBS, A6M with full loading; gas 100%, bombs, rockets,.. and only got to the ocean bedfloor.
Is there any chance to takeoff fuly loaded? I can't make it happen. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif I use lock tailwheel + radiator closed + full 110%power + boost + flaps combat/takeoff and trimed a bit then choks out and here we go..... boooom crash. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif

Can someone explain how to doit? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/touche.gif

Thanks http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Start on a carrier that is moving perhaps? And make sure its a full fleet carrier and not an escort job.

Carrier wasn't moving while I was atempting to takeoff. On servers aircraft carriers are halted at some given positions.

It's basically impossible to take of fully loaden from a static carrier. If you take off from a moving carrier, make sure it is set to maximum speed, around 50-60 km/h, not just the standard 28.

well, on online dogfightservers ist not posible to have moving carriers, true (unfortunatly)

mostly you have to reduce the fuelload to around 50% (75% in japanese planes) to have any chance to get airborne with bombs/rockets/tanks.
and even than, its not possible at all with some loadouts to get airborne................

you have to test it.................

Is this game engine limitation?

For dogfight servers yes it is a limitation. You can however take off from moving carriers in offline or online coop missions.

Even so, you have to be carefull what you bring with you. For example, a fully loaded Corsair wasnt intended to take off from a carrier, but from coral airstrips on island bases. So dont be surprised if you cant take off with 3x 500 pounders and rockets from a carrier.

I think this game does not model wind? In real life, carriers turn into the wind so the aircraft gets the advantage of wind speed + carrier speed to add to its takeoff.
