Pulled this from the simhq/Il2-Fb forum

Maybe some talented server operator can make a scenario for this.

i think the addition of spotty diesels would make flying a Pe-8 more fun.

Pilot: "ahhh, nice uneventful day"
Engine1:sputter sputter cough cough die.
Pilot: "oh no! only three left .. . I can still make it home"
Engine2:Sputter die
Engine3:Sputter die.
Engine4:Sputter die
Pilot(in that tailgunner voice we have all come to love):"OH NOOOOO!!"

I made a single mission for this raid some time ago. Never posted it though.
I set time at 11.40 pm and had 11 Pe-8s heading into Berlin from the north, spread out at various heights betweeen 5 & 7000m, and across a fifteen minute time band. I ringed Berlin with clusters of 88mm AAA in groups of three and had a searchlight at each site.
I used the Bf109E with the high alt. boost to try and shoot them down. Obviously it was very hard just trying to find them in the dark, although there is a light patch in the sky to the north and the AA bursts helped. The searchlights didn't reach that high but did at least indicate that there was a bomber somewhere nearby.
Another problem was lining up for a sensible attack, very hard to see exactly which heading the bombers were on, and those Pe-8s are very well defended if you get your approach wrong. I got shot down most of the time. I would like to try it flying the Bf110 if we ever get one.
It kept me amused for a while though, and I still give it a go every now and then.

Cheers!

If possible, please post that mission. I think we would all enjoy it now, especially after reading that article.

I fly the PE-8 every chance I get, Just wish is had a realistic FM. LW pilots get annoyed when you fly it like a fighter. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hi guys, I've dusted off the mission and tried to play it again and it keeps crashing halfway through with a memory error. It was made for original IL-2 and I added the searchlights later. Were they an patch add-on or did we only get them in FB? Can't remember. Probably explains why it doesn't work now though.
Anyways, looks like I'll have to remake it, but I'll give it a go. Will keep you posted.

Cheers.
