For some time now I have been sans joystick. It was terrible, the first few months were the worst and the rest were awful but I finally got around to purchasing an interim stick.
I've owned a couple of Logitech Wingman Pro sticks in the past and, whilst they work extremely well initially, they seem to sag on me after a while so I thought I would try something different...
I bought a Saitek Cyborg Evo.
My first impression was of how light the thing was, I even considered glueing it to a bit of PCP, I doubt it weighs much over a kilo.
I was a bit put off by this at first but I soon found that the light touch I use when flying meant that it's weight (or lack of it) wasn't an issue.
The buttons are another hurdle I balked at at first. On my first strike mission In managed to fire a rocket and all my guns at once because the buttons are so sensitive.
This pretty much now equates to me to more precise aiming and less misses due to trigger pull disruption which was a pain on the Logitech.
The top two buttons are much more ergonomically placed on the Evo and I use them for FOV, on the Logi I rarely used them at all.
The buttons on the main body of the thing seem a bit useless, I have one assigned to wheel brakes to facillitate easier taxiing but I doubt the rest will be much use as they get pressed accidentally all the time.
The adjustable wrist rest is a great idea, it can be configured for both dexterities although the designers at Saitek must have some pretty curious ideas about the size of the average human hand. (Either that or they plan to make the Evo available to gorillas.
The general feel of the thing is a lot more 'mechanical' in that the Logitech felt more like a toy but the Evo sits in my hand like a piece of hardware.
And it has lights... OOOOOooooohhhhhh. Pretty colours.
All up I'm pretty happy with it, 8/10.
