Well its time for yet another Friday update!

The P-80 is now complete! Besides any errors Oleg's team finds for me to fix, its done! Now I can work on other aircraft like the P-38 and then the PBY. Im very happy to complete my 3RD!!! aircraft for IL2. I think I am now tied with Luthier for the most 3rd party aircraft in IL2. A few notes on the P-80

External texture done by both Snorri and I

Internal textures done by me with some guages from Oleg.

Of course both models are mine. You can view a BUNCH of new screen shots at

My Home Page (http://gibbageart.havagame.com)

Also, the PBY donations are going very well. Please feel free to go check out the "Thank you" page.

Well its 6AM here, and the sun is comming up. This weekend will be a well deserved break from working my arse off to get the P-80 and Gotha done.

P.S. Dont bother asking "When" because I DONT KNOW! I doubt Oleg knows.

Goodnight!

Gibbage

I am now accepting donations to help get the PBY flyable.

great landing animation gib and thx for the update. I was wondering what type of effect is the flame going to be on the p80? Its probally too late now but I seen other p80 models which had a circle in the jet pipe that spun which gave it a very good effect. I think the 262 model should be updated with the turbo fans that spin in the front of the engines, makes it look so much better. The damage model looks cool too but a little wierd with the engine staying there http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

nice work - well done Gib /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

BTW Link is a bit screwed

also

I presume the p-80 saw active service in WW2 - however i have never actually heard about it - is there a link or some information someone could point me towards/give me about it?

cheers

and well done again !

Well if you look at the damage model were the tail is blown off, you can see that the engine in the middle of the body, just behind the main wing. Then a large pipe extends back to the tail. The engine was very short. You would not be able to see the turbines. Also no flames out the back. The Gotha DOES have spinning turbine blades in the front.

Well two were in Italy for operational tests in the last days of the war in Europ. The only mission flown was to intercept a Me-262 recon that was taking photo's. They never fount the Me-262. Damn shame too since that would have been the first jet-to-jet combat!!! But the P-80 finally did get the first jet-to-jet kill in Korea. The P-80 is more of a "what if" aircraft, like the Go-229.

Nice job Gibb, that P-80 is going to rock.

I am verymuch looking forward to the '45-'46 servers (262, 229 and P-80. The BI-1 will finally have a place to be as well...not that anyone will fly it).

thanks for that

yes i guess it is more of a 'what if' - i really had no idea the shooting star was around as early as that -
i also keep forgetting that the go-229 is the horten bros flying wing thing (correct?) that is still currently residing(unfinished) in the smithsonian basement or something - and was inspiration for stealth bomber ( as per "secret weapons of the luftwafe" - or was it "luftwaffe '46" ?) -

that looks superb dude, nice work.

Is anyone doing a Gloucester Meteor btw? It was, afterall, the first operational Allied Jet fighter. It would also love to see a Venom + Vampire.

http://www.warbirdalley.com/images/meteorNF11-WM167-GLOSM.jpg

Some Interesting facts that you may enjoy /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

1943 The Gloster Meteor twin-jet fighter has its maiden flight. Two Meteors are delivered to 616 Squadron at RAF Manston on 12 July 1944. It is a little known fact that by the end of World War II the escalation of the jet age saw over 2,000 jet aircraft in Britain, the USA, Germany, Japan and the former USSR.

Incredibly, after giving away the plans for the jet engine to the Americans, after the war the new Labour government gave Rolls-Royce jet engines to the Russians as well, resulting in the quick development of the MiG-15 fighter aircraft.

Jeez! You people give all the credit to Germany!!! Do some research!!!! Look up the YB-35 and XB-35 and get a clue. Jack Northrup was working on flying wings in 1938 and had a powered flying wing in 1939 flying when Horten was still toying with gliders!!!!! Jack did not copy Horten and Horten did not copy Jack. They never even seen each others designs till after the war.

Also, fact. The B-2 bomber has the EXACT wingspan as the B-35. Fact, the B-2 bomber has 4 engines like the B-35. Fact, the B-2 was more then 4x's the size of the Go-229. Fact, the B-2 uses Northrups split ailaron controles, not horten's Elevron "small airbrake's".

Please dont tell me you still think the B-2 is a US copy of a German design?

Bavaria is one of the oldest European states.
It dates back to about 500 A.D., when the Roman Empire was overcome by the onslaught of Germanic tribes. According to a widespread theory, the Bavarian tribe had descended from the Romans who remained in the country, the original Celtic population and the Germanic invaders.

please note i did say 'as per swotl or luft '46' insinuating that this information had come from these programs and that it was not neccesarily what i believed- as i know how the history channel can dissapear into flights of fancy on occaisions.

thank for the information though,

(p.s i thought he was joking about the kevin miller passing your work as his - wasn't he ? -suppose he could have thought your name was kevin gibbage or something
btw i always assumed gibbage was your middle name - why are you called gibbage?)
