I am interested in learning about the ins & outs of computers in general & are looking for websites that will explain the basics of hardware & software, what they are, what is it & what does it do. I am a complete novice in this area so it needs to be simple.

Do yourself a favor, buy a book or take a class.

Trying to learn on the Internet is attractive because of the whole 'free' thing, but when you factor in the time, effort, and self-discipline to do it properly, it's kinda expensive.

Once you know the basics, reading websites like the Inquirer, The register, and slashdot will keep you up-to-date and introduce you to new things.

The best thing you can do is have your own comp and fix all the problems with it yourself. Dont be tempted to get someone else to do it.

If you decide to build one, then the problems you have getting it together will help you learn.
