Dear Sir,

after intensive Erprobung since release of AEP we need to report several shortcomings of the Me-163B-1a as modelled in the sim.

1. Ze plane cannot be launched using a Bf-110 as towplane.

2. Ze zrust can be continuously varied.

3. Ze engine should explode if re-ignited in shorter intervals than 2 minutes. We propose to use an exponential probablity (50% failure rate at 2 min).

4. Ze plane can be landed without fatal loss if fuel is not empty. In fact it should explode then. Please introduce fuel emergeny release.

5. Ze vehicle should explode, too, at to rough landings and especially if it overturns then.

6. Ze plan does not occasionally catch fire or explode without a cause.

Zis behaviour is unacceptable for a high quality-sim such as yours. While continuous, strenious efforts are devoted for pimping up airsuckers with boost, these basic rocketeering issues remain unaddressed.

It is, too, a shame for every self-respecting rocketeer. The loss rate should be 5% by enemy impact and 95% by self-impact. This is unachievable even in blind-flight. There is no deadly challenge alone in flying zis plane.

We demand satisfaction at ze next patch.

Hochachtungsvoll!

Real pilots land on skids.

I second the statement of our Geschwaderadjudant in every respect. The changes named are overdue and should become part of 4.04‚¬īs to do-list with an AA priority.
If not, what about adding this bird to the sim?

Be aware zaht the german meaning of the term "Satisfaktion" as used in the prussian
officer‚¬īs corps slightly differz from the anglo-american understanding of the word.

I agree. I suggest Eric Brown's "Wings of the Luftwaffe" as an excellent source!

I see some myths need to be busted here. Why not go straight to best source Rudi Opitz (test pilot for Me 163).

http://www.flightjournal.com/articles/me163/me163_5.asp

As for #4 & #5:

Rudi Opitz:" Pilots, me included, survived overturned Komets, and an overturned ship would not necessarily leak fuel into the cockpit. "

They survived overturned Komets WITH fuel left without exploding.

For #6:

"Rocket engines would explode without warning.

Rudi Opitz: engines were reliable and relatively safe and were adjusted so as to shut down in the event of an imbalance in fuel flow. If there was a problem in engine performance, it related to shutdowns, not explosions. The only instances of engines blowing were in early testing of prototypes or when they had been damaged in battle or by accident. "

You are right: I forgot Opitz account, I read it two years ago. My actual source is Brown.

But didn't Mano Ziegler in his book (engl: ROCKET FIGHTER / german: Messerschmitt Me 163 Komet ( Das Kraftei)) report it differently?

Again, I do not have it lying around, as I read two years ago, too. According to his account one line would still be missing?

7. Ze plane does not sink like a plumb when landing on water.

Eric Brown flew the 163 - as a glider only. He made some high speed landing tests in preparation for a later cancelled jet fighter project designed by german scientists kept in Britain in 1947.

He gives a full account in his book, it's interesting.

Tchaika made a skin for the Me-163 as it was when Eric Brown flew it. The the Royal Aeronautical Society got Eric Brown to play Il-2 - he flew the Me-163 with the same paintscheme that he flew it in real life. I posted the article a year or so ago... lets see if I can't find it...
