I just got PF and decide to go on a binge and make some Ploesti missions. Since theres nothing in game, can someone post some links with DETAILED info about the raids in late 1943? It would be greatly appreciated, maps and stuff would help a lot too!

Thanks!

Read the book "Operation Tidal Wave" (out of print) if you can find a copy, perhaps at your local library.

Be ware, if you are sentimental/ patriotic at all, parts of it can be very tough to take. The raid on Ploesti (pronounced "plo-YESHT") was NO picnic.

if u need any precise info, it would be a good ideea to ask in the forums there.
about Ploiesti see this:
http://www.worldwar2.ro/arr/campaigns.htm
(scrool down to The home defense campaign)
as a short brief:
First USAAF raid over Europe was operation HALPRO (aka Halverson Project), not a big show, just more like an warning.
on 1st August 1943, 178 B-24 attacked the Ploiesti rafineries and sustained heavy losses, without achievieng great results.
Article here: http://www.elknet.pl/acestory/tidalwave/tidalwave.htm
Then the USAAF sent P-38 in another low-level attack, again with disastrous losses. rolleyes: ) a nice article here:
http://www.elknet.pl/acestory/vizanti/vizanti.htm
After this Oly high alt raids were performed, with up to 700 bombers with the aprpriate escort, The raids started from Italy and the bombers landed in Russia at Poltava, Mirgorod and Piriatin and attacking once again on their way home (usualy the next day(s)) This put the romanian and german defences in a great difficulty, and until 19 August 1944 fierce battle were fought over Ploesti. (on 18 Aug cpt. Alexandru Serbanescu, one of the greatest romanian aces-47 confirmed victories+8 probable- was killed by the USAAF mustangs.
