View Full Version : Mr. Maddox, It`s the Escape Whiner Again...

Yes, it`s me the Escape Whiner. Mr. SeaFire! The other day, Ian Boys mentioned I should see Starshoy about my request. This morning, Starshoy rsponded that it needed to be initially implemented thru Oleg and his talented team ( a bit of buttering up there! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif )

Here is a reminder. It`s simply about having a percentage chnce to return to friendly lines instead of always being immediately captured. Many times in the Campaign, I`ll fly a long mission, have a great sortie and it`s all wasted because I crashlanded an inch in front of the RED line (or Blue).

As I said the great European Air War and not so great CFS3 do this. So why not the excellent FB. It can be as simple or as complex as you would like it to be. Here is my example...

Process:
Player in long mission, gets himself shot to bits in enemy airspace... He`s smoking...

1. Player bails or crashlands in unfriendly territory.

1a. Do NOT have `player captured` leave blank.

2. Player presses Escape to quit and continue with Campaign (as well as Scripted server- where pilots count)

3. Program decides on 50\50 chance whether pilot made it back to base or was captured.

4, On Debrief (and\or scripted server) it says either `Player Captured MIA or Player Succesfully Returned to Home Base, perhaps missing a day or two (or even longer)for Campaign purposes.

Perhaps chance could even be made a little more complex, maybe depending on radius to enemy vehicles, installations.. but the basics are fine for now.

Come on, Mr. Maddox. If I could I would program it myself I would! I`m asking you to serious consider this. I find it hard to believe that you see this as so unimportant. People insult you and are rude just because plane FMs are `incorrect` to their thinking. Here, I am trying to be reasonable and logical.

I`m trying to get something working that should have been STANDARD and will benefit EVERYONE not just myself.

What can be better than that, eh?

That sounds like a great idea, would be cool to actually have a chance to retun home after escaping.

How are you coming up with this 50/50 chance crap? What are you basing that on? If it is going to be in the sim, shouldn't it be historically realistic? Is it really worth the development to implement it if the chance is something like .05%? Many players would probably never even see it happen. It would be an "easter egg" feature, i.e. development time wasted on something for novelty's sake, rather than improved gameplay.

I explained this to you on the post in General discussion. If you don`t like that then there`s no more for me to say. i won`t get in a silly argument with you, A.K.Davis.

It is Oleg i`m trying to convince.

Is there an escape from the Escape Whiner?????
Maybe a 50% chance

Actually I like the idea but I am not sure it is the proper method to lobby for it.

just creat safe areas on your map - little pockets belonging to your side - same effect.

Make the pilot a "fist person" when he's not in the cockpit.
Then you can bail out and run for it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

But what is? Find a way to weedle into his private circle of friends, then over Vodka mention it to him? Not likely to happen. But I see your point. Oleg DOES read these threads and I think if he was going to do anything, he would have at least left a message....

It seems FM whiners are listened to. Fine . And yes Flight models are important, but so are the very basic things used in every other sim. Perhaps one day Olegg will come across some of my work and be so taken by it he`ll beg me for it.

Then I could just casually ignore his requests... /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Yes, you suggested it once, and you were not the first.
You have a chase. History supports you. You're not getting any more right by posting it over and over. Simply bump your first thread if you feel like it.
The frontline enclaves would be a good workaround, but it would be a lot of programming work for Starshoy. Also they should be invisible and I dont know if that works.
Simply a dice roll after a plane lands would be better. Maybe modify the chance of escaping by the distance to the frontline.

One question: if it was implemented, would you accept a 1 in 100 chance?
