Does anyone have an idea of when the next Silenthunter III Update (Version 1.4) will be released?

I wouldnt ask for the time let the guys get the 1.4 one right and then you all will be happy campers. You don't want another 1.3 disaster again...So let the devs take their time.

This is a quote from a thread that I started a couple of weeks ago. Looks to me that they are working on patch 1.4 but I'm not sure.

...........Silent Hunter III, the news for the patch is that the patch is in development, when we get closer to release and completion of the patch we will release information. It's got nothing to do with telling people to be quiet or anything, it's about releasing solid information. Would you prefer us to send out a statement saying X, Y, and Z will be in the next patch and then have two of those things dropped for A, B, and C? No, you'd be disappointed. In these cases it's often best not to say anything at all.

This argument has no place here, thread closed.

Not sure when it will be released but should be close to the end of the month.

Quick question. . .

Are patches all-encompasing? What I mean is, I'm running 1.2 right now (having heard all of the problems with 1.3. Will 1.4 bridge the gap, or do I have to install 1.3 first?

End of the month?

Wow, they managed to fix a huge bug in 2 months that should've taken 5 minutes...

I only takes about 15 minutes to fix the bug. Go back to 1.2 if it bothers you that much.

ILikePortillos: Will 1.4 bridge the gap, or do I have to install 1.3 first? So far each subsequent patch after 1.1 has included all the fixes of the previous patch. If you installed the original retail version of 1.0, you could apply patch 1.3 and you'd be up-to-date. The next patch will likely continue the trend, as the patches have been very small. None of the patches have introduced any real new content additions to speak of, just tweaks and the continuing cycle of bug fixes. Oh, and in 1.3's case--it also introduced some pretty significant bugs too.

Frustrating? You bet. Especially since most people expected a small hot-fix for the SO/WO fumble introduced in 1.3. Instead, they apparently decided to leave things broken, work on the next patch and incorporate the fix for a major issue within it.

I'm all for waiting and allowing time for a proper patch, but I feel this should've been handled differently.

C'est la vie.

I'm a bit disappointed that Ubi decided not to fix the WO/SO patch right away. Contrary to what some on this forum say, this patch is a necessity if the game is to be played on higher realism settings. Currently it is difficult to get a good gaming experience post-1942 thanks to the massive DD spawn bug, a bug that can only be fixed by implementing 1.3 and losing your two most critical officers in the process. I have heard of mods that fix the DD spawn bug but I'm wary of mods after the last one inadvertantly emptied the Atlantic of all enemy vessels. Besides, bugs as critical as the DD spawn one are the responsibility of the developers to fix, not the consumers.

All in all this is an excellent game. I just wish that the dev team could fix major flaws without implementing even bigger flaws. When critical flaws are noticed that require a quick fix (such as that implemented in 1.3) it would be nice for the dev team to fix it immediately, before implementing further changes, rather than require the consumers to wait more than a month.

I dont mind waiting for the patch but what I really dont like is the complete silence from the developers. I wish they were more like the Lock-On team when it come to community interaction, they gave updates now and then about how things were going and what was fixed in the patch(es).

rofloelfoefleof roffle my waffle!

_

How about a tiny little sonar patch that could be made in surely a week if they put 1 man on it for about 30 minutes a day that made 1.3 playable?

I'd like to play SHIII please but currently I can't because my sonar man may aswell be dead.

Is there some sort of law where they can only release patches of a certain size that I'm not aware of?

Honestly, there's no real excuse for not giving us a tiny patch, then **** it, spend 4 months on 1.4, I don't care so much, I'd rather just have a playable game.

I only takes about 15 minutes to fix the bug. Go back to 1.2 if it bothers you that much.

Oh great, I'll just uninstall the game (takes a few minutes) then install the game again (takes more minutes) then install 1.2 which has several disadvantages to 1.3.

Why can't I just have 1.3 without game-breaking bugs? I'm not asking for much, ffs. I'm not asking to explore the whole sub or for milkcows or for anything that would require any real time or effort, just a **** fix.

I'm a bit disappointed that Ubi decided not to fix the WO/SO patch right away. Contrary to what some on this forum say, this patch is a necessity if the game is to be played on higher realism settings.

Thank you. Some people are ****ing thick ****s that give you a ******* smartass answer (contradictory... but not really) and hire a hitman to kill you if you say anything bad about Ubi's dire handling of this sonar man affair.

I'm ashamed to admit that I was one of those fanboys before the 1.3 debacle. However, Ubi's complete disregard for fixing the deaf sonarman, combined with the fact that the only fix for the previously heinous DD spawn bug came with 1.3, has disillusioned me quite a bit. I have only two months left to play this otherwise wonderful game (then law school starts up and I kiss my games farewell) and at the current rate it's looking like I won't be left with much time.

Wow, a response INSIDE a topic o_o

I think this is the first time something like this has happened... on any board.

Anyway, is there ANY word as to how long it's going to take? I've had the desire to blow some tankers for ages now but I know if I go back to my 1.3 SHIII I won't be able to do squat >_<

That, and there's that weird distorted subnet collision noise that plays really loud for some reason seemingly at random or upon loading sometimes when you're near a subnet.

If I get the sonarman fix, a subnet noise fix, and the ability to use my periscope properly without having to mess with the F keys... all will be forgiven...

SIM HQ SHIII PATCH (http://www.simhq.com/simhq3/sims/boards/bbs/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=129;t=001170)

I also saw a thread in there yesterday with Dan saying the patch MAY be out the END OF JULY!!! (looked for the thread to post here and now I cant find it) Its going to take you guys almost two months to make a patch (and thats cool)...but I REALLY wish you guys would fix the sonar guy bug NOW with a v 1.31 patch... come on!

Because of the problems with patch 1.3, the guys want to make sure that 1.4 is fully tested before release. The DEV I spoke with suggested that the end of July release date was a worst case scenario, and that an earlier release date is probable.

Thank god I played the game on till 1.2 then my PSU was giving me problems (didn€t find out till after I wiped the dam thing) and the machine was returned and upgraded to a better one free of charge but before it went back to the shop I was asked to back everything up and because the problem was connected with the power to the 6800gt card I had done a clean install of everything to try and fix it.

I€ve had the machine back for weeks and still SHIII is sitting uninstalled as I wait for the new patch, I thought I€d just wait plus all those Star force threads panicked me a bit as I had just bought a DVDRW and did not want it toasted.

Anyway I€ve got that BF2 coming so that will get me playing a game again but I really liked what I had played with Sh and hopefully it wont be long and I just hope they take care and time with it.

If there aren't some SERIOUS improvements in it, I don't what the hell they've been doing the past month or more.

All I wanted was a sonarman fix... to make the game playable again... actually no, a sonarman fix and not to have the **** scared out of me by a loud distorted subnet collision noise being played seemingly at random whenever I'm near a place with subnets.

Well thank **** for that http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

VERY VERY soon? Sooner than you expected?

Hmmm... my bet is within a week.

If the sonarman bug is fixed (obviously it will be...), that TERRIFYING noise is fixed and I can use my periscope front inside the boat properly... it'll all have been worthwhile. If just the first 2... worthwhile I guess but... meh. If the noise is still there... ugh >_<

As much as I am permitted to say, the patch ver 1.4 has been under development for a while now.

The Devs dont want to rush it out, so time is being spent ensuring a solid patch will be released...bug free !

Your patience whilst awaiting this patch is appreciated, So lets not push the Devs but exercise some of that ol Kapitans Silent Running patience !
You know, your below the waves, the DD's are above you, pinging, pinging constantly pinging. You sit it out, you wait....your waiting pays off...the DD's spread out and clear off...you sail away...your destiny still awaits.

Ubi, patch 1.4 beta has been leaked (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/857101043/m/8661044233).

If so, here's the current ReadMe:

1. Campaign radio messages improved so that a message can have "from" and "to" fields
2. Multiplayer version changed to 1.4.
3. Fixed the bug concerning sonar ping for clients
4. Added new buildings in German bases (harbors)
5. UZO view by night was improved;
6. Navigator tells when the last waypoint was reached;
7. Customizable values for storm parameters for each U-Boat (see StormConditions entry for each uboat.cfg file);
8. Depth report only when diving (from 10 to 10 meters); Time compression will drop to 1 (if greater) when critical depth was reached;
9. Sonar new contacts are identified as merchants or warships (not as unknown contacts as in the previous patch);
10. Sonar indicator will move faster when the player is at sonar station (and clicks on the sonar dial); and now it can be dragged with the mouse;
11. Some shortcut keys will toggle between current view and the next view: radio messages (M), captain's log (K), hydrophone station (H) and radio station (R);
12. A new option was added on "Merchant/Warship/... spotted" popup window. By checking this check box (called "Set as default action") the selected action will be always performed when the situation occurs. This default action will be saved from a game to other and can be reset, during the game (when press ESC) by choosing "Options/Reset default action" from Game options;
13. Corrected several torpedo descriptions errors within the game
14. Added the P38 fighter bomber to the inventory of American forces and the campaign
15. Added the Wellington bomber to the inventory of British forces and the campaign
16. Corrected the damage model for the German Armed Merchant Cruiser
17. Increased the detonation range of star shells to 1800m
18. Changed Torpedo Momber aircraft type designation to Bomber
19. Improved the rough waters behavior of Small and Coastal Merchants
20. Sonar man - Fixed a bug where "Report on nearest contact" was not function properly
21. Sonar man - Fixed a bug where "Follow nearest contact" was not function properly
22. Dynamic campaign - Add new harbor ships and traffic, including merchants, minefields and patrols
23. Dynamic campaign - Corrected some data in the naval rooster

A question for the developers:

One of the most elementary bugs is that torpedo speed settings are not retained between saving and loading of a patrol. This is an annoying headache and is especially important if the savepoint is in the heat of an attack, where every second of distraction counts. Resetting all 5-6 tubes takes quite a while to perform.

In the original novel, Dracula lived in Romania. Victor Frankenstein's monster was created in Ingolstad, Bavaria, but does most of its killing near Geneva, Switzerland.
